d.phylleia is a DJ from South London (UK).

She’s inspired by all things gritty, distorted and bass-driven.

She’s part of the collective and record label Dock34, a group that her friends had started together at University. Dock34's focus is on exploring electronic music and A/V technology. The collective has plans to release their first E.P. in the next year and host upcoming parties in London and Bristol (tba!).

Her bi-monthly show on NARR Radio in Leeds, explores forms of electronic music such as electro, industrial, darkwave, experimental, post-punk, EBM and rhythmic noise.

As a compulsive crate digger she’s currently playing all vinyl, a rule which determines the music she plays as much as how she goes about it.

When she’s not spinning or digging, she’s studying for an MSc in Human Computer Interaction!

Wire Mix 014: d.phylleia

For Wire Mix 015 Kessie has put together a 1hour mix showcasing a range of moods she is currently interested in, playing material from CARLOS, Ian Pooley, MONOPHONIK, Simo Cell and more. Expect 4x4, bass, ebm and grime. Originally from London but currently based in Leeds Kessie is well known for her gritty, trippy and sometimes sleazy style. 

Kessie is currently one of the residents at Wire and has supported various artists over the past years, most recently VTSS, Freakenstein and Object Blue. She is also a resident for the local club night Love Muscle and runs NARR Radio & Flesh In Tension.

Wire Mix 015: Kessie

Coco Bryce (@cocobrycebeats) is a veteran of the drum & bass scene, but also one of its most cutting-edge artists. The Breda-born DJ and producer is a master of intricate drum patterns and superbly warm and emotive pads. His silky, soulful sounds some with deft vocals and proper piano riffs that are always on the more minimal end of the spectrum, but still make a lasting impact. Next to his own Myor label, he has landed on the likes of Critical Recordings, Lobster Theremin and Fresh 86, and in 2022 alone he has put out at least six different EPs. 

True to his prolific form, this week's mix is packed with his own exclusive and unreleased tunes as well as gems from Paradox, Denham Audio and DJ H. It adds up to an absorbing hour of stylish and stripped-back rhythms that both float in the cosmos and root you to the dance floor. Lush chords and subtle waves of euphoria permeate the whole mix and make it as emotionally touching as it is physically moving.

This recording comes from Leeds-based, self-releasing dub techno producer Skins who warmed up before Willow and Binh on 1st Feb 2019 for Pretty Pretty Good. Some words from the man himself:

"I approached this mix very differently to the two I put out last year. With those I feel like I was trying to make up for not having the chance to play out much so the mixes pretty much reflected what I'd do in the club: pick a few stacks of records to fit the energy I want to bring and then just mix them off the cuff. For this one I actually took a bit of time to consider a complete aesthetic, picked records to specifically fit that idea and then spent a while working on the sequence to make sure everything fit, moving things where I needed to. The mix is based around the idea of dreaming, hence the vocal at the end talking about having to "come back down to earth". I snuck that Delano Smith track in because it's a massive percy and also Wire/Wires."

Wire Mix 006: Skins - "Dream Mix"

Next up on the series is Leeds-based producer and selector @liseneuk aka Marlon Morris. 

Marlon joined the ranks at On Rotation as a resident a couple of years ago, helping them put on incredible parties with the likes of Detroit In Effect, Ex-Terrestrial & Priori, Roza Terenzi, Justin Cudmore and D. Tiffany. His own productions reflect the styles of the party's headliners, touching upon electro while firmly grounded in rolling, intricate,  trance inducing grooves and meaty basslines. His best mate Adam Pits shares this passion for proggy sounds, and together they are Space Cadets, releasing their first record on Seven Hills Records earlier this year.

Not only is a dab-hand on production, Lisene is a fine digger of tunes, regularly plumbing the depths of goa trance, breaks, tech house and more for gems. This mix is testament to those efforts.

Wire Mix 012: Lisene

The first Wire Mix of 2020 comes from Benny Ill, best known for being one half of seminal production duo Horsepower Productions. Releasing material since 2000, the dynamic of the unit has shifted over the years, yet Benny has remained at the forefront of UK bass culture. 

Ahead of the Ghost X GD4YA show this Friday, Benny kindly put together this flawless Eastern Influences mix for the next instalment of the Wire mix series. Horsepower Productions are joined by a generous lineup of El-B, Sully and Wen.
