The Newsletters are a Melbourne band who play indie rock in the vain of 80s/90s UK bands like Ride, the Jesus and Mary Chain and Oasis. After releasing two stand-alone singles (‘Lucky Country’ and ‘Ordinary Day’), the band put out their debut album in late 2017. Their self titled album was recorded by John Lee at his studio in Coburg, Melbourne, and released on 12” vinyl by Oz rock label Buttercup Records (Clouds, Falling Joys, The Lonelyhearts). 

Their most recent album Falling Rain The album was written and recorded in our upstairs flat in Melbourne looking out at the backstreets and public housing towers. Lyrically the songs explore love, relationships, distance and life on the outskirts. Mixing and strings by Tony Dupé. Mastering by Mark Bihler at Calyx. Keyboards by Claire Deak on Door to Door.

Rory McVicar is a musician and songwriter who lives in London. He has played live with the likes of Josh T. Pearson, Bat for Lashes and Jason Molina, recorded sessions for Huw Stephens and Rob da Bank on Radio 1, and released records under a variety of different labels.

"Toothache / Alone I'll Be" (VAN298) is a double A-side 7" single taken from McVicar's forthcoming album, entitled "Wednesday Week".

The songs are a reflection on our relationship with time, and our inability to control it or dampen its effect on our lives. They are about the monotony of modern living, and the extent to which we move through our days as mechanical men and women.

Both songs were recorded in the vast flatlands of the Fens at Sickroom Studios, with musical accompaniment provided by Mat Riviere and members of Magoo.
