Blush aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

I'm obsessed with that chopped-and-screwed sound, and what the texture and warp does to me. That ambience, the play between intimacy and isolation, alien and tangible, can really trip you out. It's emotional. It's a groove you have to sink into."

J. Aria is a multi-instrumentalist producer and selector - a resident at both Adonis and Dalston Superstore. Their acid-camp, fierce-groove dramatics have seen them make waves across the queer underground, with appearances at worldwide institutions Carry Nation, Block9 and Body Movements. They have put out acclaimed tracks on Super Drama Records and Queer House Party, with Adonis Records + Nervous Records releases scheduled for 2024. Their genre-defying sound is drenched in soul pulling fierceness and romance from all corners of dance into a singular and commanding voice.

Our landmark 700th episode in partnership with Detroit’s Blueprint presents the first in a new three-part series exploring the untold history of Detroit techno from the perspective of the women who built it.

The history of Detroit techno is often recounted in waves. First there was the Belleville Three—Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May—closely followed by a second cohort of artists who further developed the sound in the '90s. Names like Carl Craig, Octave One, Robert Hood, Jeff Mills and Mike Banks are among those that have been codified in the official annals of techno history.

But there's another, lesser known story that is seldom told about the women who grew the scene right alongside them. Equally esteemed artists like DJ Minx (the founder of Women On Wax Recordings), K-Hand, DJ Cent, Stacey Hotwaxx Hale and more ran labels, collectives and DJ nights that aren't bestowed with the same credit as those from their male counterparts, and have consequently been lost in the chronicles of time. For the 700th episode of the RA Exchange, we counter correct this gender inequity with the first episode of a three-part series hosted and produced by the all-female Detroit collective and party series Blueprint. 

Alanna Greenlee, Janisa Nelson and Crystal Mioner embark on interviews that illuminate an alternative history of Detroit techno that unfurled alongside these better-documented techno waves, tracing the birth of a woman-led community that put mutual support at its heart and fought to earn respect from their male peers and the scene at large. Christo comes to you with massive amounts of love and decades of experience playing and dancing on floors throughout the Southeast, New York and Berlin. An Atlanta native, Christo pulls his inspirations from growing up going to big room raves and gay clubs in the late 90’s and early 00’s, with his love of trance, queer sexual freedom, 90’s production sensibilities, and long form rhythmic builds.  His open format sound will push and pull you to euphoric highs, unrelenting percussive tunnels, and left-field sonic infusions that feel worldly and environmental. Christo has been actively designing for musicians and Dj’s for over 15 years and has been behind some small but mighty events such as Connector, Techno Breakfast, etc. Currently Christo is working on opening a venue in Chattanooga, Tennessee to offer a place for the sound to sit dead center in the Southeastern United States.
