Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Be the queer elder to others that you wish you got to have. Don't let cis people turn you into a promotional tactic. Unlearn everything. Prepare to be disappointed by the musical landscape & larger scene you find yourself in but convince yourself there is hope around the corner. Remember that it is our duty to constantly brainstorm how to uplift people of color and queer people through what we do and to wrench control from the men and women who have positioned themselves as tastemakers but lack the human empathy at the core of this music. Listen to your community. Ask yourself what community means. Do your best to transform the bitterness and isolation into celebration.

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. I have been a DJ for 12 years and been in NY for about 8. I work at DJ Fix as a repair tech, where we work on DJ equipment and synths and beyond. I'm also an aspiring producer and I've been putting the finishing touches on my first EP for the past decade. 😭 

Q. Most recent memorable club night in NY? If so, which one? 
A. I went to Weird Science for the first time and Beau Wanzer + Abby Echiverri were DJing. The party takes place in Greenpoint on Sunday afternoons/evenings at a very unique intimate space called Magick City. The musical theme for the night is strange and obscure music for dancing or not. The party is thrown by Ania and Maroje with lots of love and extra care. They bring in their own sound and they serve various delicious foods and kombucha. Highly recommended.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about this mix? 
A. I recorded this during lockdown, a bit before the Red Summer of 2020. I was in somewhat of a different headspace but this is the first mix I crafted in quarantine so I put a lot of thought and heart into it. My inspiration was basically a backyard/rooftop hangout sesh. It is definitely an ode to ganja and the summer. Hopefully it will uplift you and get you to nod your head and maybe even get you to dance a little. Peace and Love to all.
