2015 saw Stephan Bodzin release his second full length, “Powers of Ten”, as well as a new single on DJ Tennis’ and Tale of Us’ taste making label Life and Death. The album is another magical piece of work that focuses on melody and rhythm, on fat bass and vivid sound design and is a truly captivating journey through the mind, music, body and soul of one of dance music’s truly modern greats. After its release, a great team of modern music makers was enlisted to remix tracks from it: Maceo Plex & Shall Ochin, Fur Coat, Extrawelt, long time musical sparring partner Marc Romboy, Pan-Pot, Max Cooper, Agents of Time, Dominik Eulberg and many more all contributed to what is an essential collection. With a remix of ‘Sleepless’, a Pan-Pot track from their latest album, Stephan Bodzin closed the latest chapter of 2015 in what has been an exhilarating musical journey in his capable and creative hands.

The sharply defined lines of Brutalist architecture, the infinite starry expanse of the cosmos, the industrial automation of the factory floor, the endless virtual worlds that make up the alternate universe of cyberspace: what do each of these things have in common with the new EP from Wata Igarashi on The Bunker New York? All are essentially a distillation of the grand, overarching spirit of modernity embodied by techno music.

Wata Igarashi is a lifelong musician and professional sound designer by trade. His decades of experience composing music for TV, web, live events, and beyond taught him the ins and outs of electronic music production — the mood of his machines — and led him to develop mind-bending techno timbres that recall the similarly hypnotic artistry of Rrose or Donato Dozzy, alongside a certain ineffable quality that makes his work uniquely his own. “Japanese people like to refine things,” suggests Igarashi. “There’s definitely some kind of particular ‘Japanese thing’ in electronic music — some Japanese producers are so detailed, carefully looking after the smallest elements,” he adds. Certainly, Igarashi himself falls in that cohort.

The last several years have been fruitful for Igarashi, with hotly tipped records on Peter Van Hoesen's Time to Express record label, the Berlin-based Midgar, and Spanish minimal techno specialists Semantica. A chance meeting at Berghain in February 2015 led Igarashi to connect with Bryan Kasenic, the man behind The Bunker New York, who already knew and loved his music. The pair developed a fast friendship based on mutual respect, and Kasenic was honored to welcome Igarashi to The Bunker New York family.

For his debut on The Bunker New York, Igarashi presents Mood of the Machines, a pristine techno record so perfectly composed, so tightly woven, that it simply speaks for itself. Each of the four untitled tracks offers a different bassline groove paired with slowly unfurling cosmic sound design, featuring synthesizer leads that sound like an aural glimpse into the inner workings of your brain. Techno is a universal language, and The Bunker New York is proud to share Wata Igarashi's latest dancefloor declaration with the world.

Longtime resident of the label Stefan Vincent offers up Dynamic Reflection’s 37th vinyl, a four tracker consisting of three distinct original mixes from Stefan’s own hands and a remix by the fellow Dutchmen Artefakt. 

For everyone who has heard of Stefan Vincent and his music before, it’s no secret that he favors the use of melody and melancholy to bring purport to his tracks and The Spaces Between Time is no exception. While peculiar parts of sound design do their job by keeping things in motion at all times, lush pads find their counterpart in the familiar sounds of vintage drum machines that lay the foundation of these contemporary pieces of techno.

Add to that a very dreamy yet effective remix by Artefakt on the A2 and the tone is undeniably set. DREF037 is the kind of patiently evolving and expanding techno that crowds just will not get enough of, guaranteed.

Falling Into The Light

Hidden Traffic certifies a completely defined pattern in its fourth release in which its maximum representation delimitates a solid and unalterable project, a personal project that marks an unchangeable sequence with a very exclusive style applied with firm hand by its main responsible artist.

Massa legitimizes with this new challenge his ability to preserve a musical personality that determines his identity as a producer and his record label as well. An abyss of electromagnetic impulses awake the listener from a slight lethargy, each tiny organism is subjected to a small stimulus that increases in intensity until emerging from the deepest entrails of human being.

Polish producer Blazej Malinowski emphasizes the spiritual character of the release with an adaptation of Binocular Disparity in which the harmonic connections appease the temperament of the original cut.

SINISTER 02

Par Grindvik’s Sinister label raises its dark and mysterious head for the second
release, ’Sinister 02’. Joining Par on the release are a collection of artists who’s individual
styles have earned them well-respected plaudits across electronic music.
They share common ground, but keep to their own unique form in this release.

Heiko Laux & Alexander Lukat’s ’Bleak’ is a lusciously textured piece full of grainy
pads, rumbling sub-bass and sucking rhythms. As the track gently builds and falls,
the detail in their production glimmers through. ’Bleak’ is a powerful and brooding
track for the floor.

Par Grindvik’s ’Sinister ReEnter’ is a near beatless piece that balances unease and
tension with intrigue and open-mindedness. A perfect intro to sets.

Dustin Zahn’s ’Our Tide of Sin’ combines straight-up, rolling drums with a playfulness
not oft-heard in many modern-day techno productions. Layered with phasing
tones and samples, Dustin retains drive while keeping the track moving throughout.

Secluded’s ’Energy’ track brings things down to a darker level. His head-down productions
as Secluded stir forbidding thoughts. Based around simplistic and wholly
effective hooks, Secluded’s productions have a muscular, but restrained sound; a
winning alliance.

Par’s Sinister imprint continues where it left off, pulling in four sombre, yet powerful
tracks - something for every stage of the club.
