"Bewekedi" in my mother tongue means "sunrise", it is the name of my mother and it symbolises hope for a better day.

The 5th of August last, I made my debut in Pianoland, Amsterdam. Giving me the freedom to bring a more ethereal yet punchy afro house sound that evening, I'm sharing with you this 1h30 recording. It oscillates between dreaming voices paired with strong drums and snares, to the rhythms of tribal claps.

Chuck Black is a multifaceted individual who has exhibited a true craftsmanship when it comes to his musical performance. As an observer of his own interior world, he has dove into various styles which he learned to love, from deep-house and house classics, to Afro-infused electronic beats. Rooted in his Cameroonian-French upbringing, he has packed on impactful rhythms combining powerful drums with ethereal, almost dreamy melodies.

As a member of the duo @cdfislove, Chuck Black is leaving a mark in every venue he has performed. As a solo act, he has appeared all over Europe, in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, and Prague to name a few and more recently in South East Asia.

This summer, I was invited by WhoMadeWho to take part in their outstanding lineup during their boutique festival in Copenhagen named "The Moment". I attended the first edition during Covid and it left a lasting impression on me. It opened my eyes to a different approach towards music. Since then, I've traveled far, met various individuals and I grew as an artist. Today, I release this piece as a testimony of my path thus far. It is true to who I am and who I'm trying to become.

Following the holiday celebrations, I've decided to start 2018 anew. Eveil ushers in a new path quite different from what I've been doing until now. Embracing a more complex genre of house, Eveil regroups a collection of "spiritual" tunes you could listen and dance to. Finally, this work marks the beginning of a collaboration with my brother Alex Coly under the name Coup De Foudre.

Invested in a more conscious approach of my music, this is also a tribute to Malcolm X and Jean D'Ormesson.
