Jenny cried the whole way down  
sinking underneath-
I left the front door open
for her back room grief  
                     
Stared down every line in the road  
hoping to see your name.
They spelled absolutely nothing at all-
ain’t it a shame, but who’s to blame?

I tried to fight the sun for the past,
but it hid underground-
nowhere to be found.

You left without telling the kitchen                          
the ashtray still thinks you’re home.
Driving past exits I forgot by heart,
pretending they all look familiar now  
                         
Jenny was humming a song I forgot  
or maybe it never existed.
I asked what she needed, she said  
“Keep moving,” and I did.
