From a small rural area in the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal name Dududu, Major Brothers is a group of two talented house music Disc Jockeys who are passionate about making music. The duo consists of Thamsanqa Ntobela and Mazwi Mnguni. Growing up in two different families yet with a mutual love for music made these two started merging in 2015 to produce their own songs. Thamsanqa fell in love with the art after hearing DJ Bongz – Sobuye Sbonane, from there he was interested on how the mixing of the song was done. Mazwi’s influence was through his father who was a taxi driver, who always played music in his taxi, that is when his interest grew and started producing his own music too.
The formation of this duo was inspired by the vision of becoming one of the entertainers in the South African music industry, producing clean quality music. From 2015, Major Brothers has been making, releasing music and playing at various events showcasing their talent.
The style of music they produce and play is a fusion of commercial plus afro-house music, which is timeless. The influence in terms of DJ skills is from Black Coffee, and when it comes to production, DaCapo is the major influence.
In 2016, they release their first single “Wela (featuring Vuyo)”, which was well received and put them on the map in most places around KwaZulu Natal. On the same year (2016), they released their first E.P called Love and Hustle, it also brought positive feedback to the group. So far they have collaborated with Vuyo, Kuhle Mashobane, K Majesty and BeeKay.
With their years of experience playing at a number of events, Major Brothers had shared stages with some of the well-established artists in Africa such as DJ Fresh, Le Soul, DJ Zinhle, DJ Tira and Black Motion to name few. They have also been opening acts on one of the biggest music events in South Africa called Fact Durban Rocks.
Currently Major Brothers are the resident DJs at Kofifi Lounge, since 2017. The also host their own occasional event called “Party with Major Brothers”, which has about +1000 attendees. In 2022 they will release their second E.P which currently untitled.
