Justin Schultz is a 20-year old producer and musician from the East Bay of California. He has been producing under the artist name Spirit Animal for three years now, progressing from making chillwave to making more experimental electronic music over that time period. As a producer and a musician, Justin has always strived to make his music sound very diverse and different from the rest. His music stretches from glo-fi to deep house over the course of the EP. The remixes by SpAceLex („Stay High“), Tronik Youth Kontakt High („Stay High“), Disko Selectors („Nightmusic“) and Lazy Kiss („Nightmusic“) broaden the spectre from golden to plastic beauty.

Since 2013, the Parsian collective Mawimbi (@wearemawimbi) have demonstrated that music has no borders. Consisting of musicians POUVOIR MAGIQUE, SSCK, ALT, L'ENFANT-LOUP, ALT!, and UMEME,  the group spends the majority of their time as a record label and DJ crew. The goal of their mission is to select the finest rhythms and vibes from the Motherland and spread their idea of multicultural club culture across the most famous clubs in France.

However, this description of Mawimbi does not do them justice. The crew doesn’t appear to care about exclusivity or being pretentious. They do their best to not alienate the current club culture by incorporating more conventional forms of dance music like ghetto house, modern highlife and shamanic techno in their projects. This certainly helps lessen the culture shock, making the global journeys they take people on slightly more digestible and familiar. Think of Mawimbi as your trusty tour-guide that will take care of you as they expose you to the alluring soundscapes of places like Soweto, Bamako, and Kinshasa.

The “musical tourism” Mawimbi have carried out the past 4 years has given them a following of over 10,000 people that stretch from Berlin to Pretoria, and Tokyo to Amsterdam. Due to their recent success, the crew is coming out with the second volume to their compilation series Radio Mawimbi.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on the A1, and are quickly becoming fans of Yeahman's remix of Africa Show’s 1960’s song “Massanga.” The song is from Angola, but the remixer hails from Toulouse. Seeming to be a proponent of the old adage “less is more,” Yeahman does not do anything to detract from the original’s feel. Instead, he decides to pick up the record’s sloth-like tempo while blending in an assortment of his own percussion and echoing synths; making it perfect for warm weather excursions to the beach!

For the last decade, Argentina has become the epicenter of a musical explosion that characteristically blends folk music from the surrounding Andes and electronic beats. The artist arguably responsible for its emergence on a global platform is one named Chancha Via Circuito- a Buenos Aires native named Pedro Canale whose first album Rodante (2008) opened the floodgates by pushing the borders of Cumbia listeners weren't even aware existed. He's gone on to release other highly acclaimed albums such as Rio Arriba (2010), which Resident Advisor described as 'aural magical realism', and Amansara (2014), which catapulted him onto acclaimed international stages and received praises from Pitchfork to the New York Times. 

Four years later, in the midst of some very notable global turbulence, Chancha Via Circuito brings us his highly anticipated new album Bienaventuranza- a word that essentially means bliss. Replete with his signature touches of Andean instruments (think lots of flute and charango), the folkloric elements on this album blend fluidly with danceable and digestible electronic beats. He's been cooking this record slowly, with unprecedented amounts of care and in a much more collaborative manner than his past albums.

Después de cerrar un ciclo con su proyecto Lulacruza, que nos dejó 5 discos alucinantes y la película Esperando el Tsunami del director Vincent Moon, el productor y multi instrumentista Luis Maurette regresa como Uji.

Mientras se prepara para el lanzamiento de Alborada, su primer LP en solitario bajo el sello argentino ZZK, Uji aceptó la invitación de Diego Gómez para participar en su proyecto Cerrero.  

Uji nos entrega una versión de Cuando canto grito en la que nos muestra el hechizo de su música con un remix que estará disponible para los melómanos desde el hoy en Bandcamp y en las demás plataformas a partir del 18 de este mes.

Con esta nueva remezcla, Cerrero sigue uniendo los puntos de la nueva ola latinoamericana a través de colaboraciones que ya suman a Nicola Cruz, Mitú, la cantante Lucía Pulido, la poeta María Paz Guerrero y la ilustradora colombiana Karolina Bebop.

Luis Maurette, argentinian producer and multi-instrumentalist presents his solo project Uji. Alborada his debut album will be released by ZZK records in June.  Cuando canto grito, Cerrero´s latest single, receives Uji´s treatment  for a version that takes us to the haunted world of Maurette's music.

Purchase LP / Digital: https://wonderwheelrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/jallallan 2017, Lagartijeando (Mati Zundel), released his second full length album ‘El Gran Poder,’ via Wonderwheel and subsequently hypnotized the masses with the way he laced the traditional Charango playing that he picked up traveling the Andes with the pulsing, digital-cumbia electronica that’d been popularized in the region by the likes of Chancha Via Circuito, Nicola Cruz, and beyond. El Gran Poder plucked Zundel from his small town of Dolores in Argentina and catapulted his sound onto a global stage. He was revered by the likes of The Fader and Bandcamp, who referred to him as an electro-folk alchemist - and that he is. 

On June 7, Lagartijeando casts a new spell with Jallalla, an ambitious new full length being released on Wonderwheel Recordings. Jallalla is a word used in Bolivia to celebrate something- and it’s a word that strengthens in meaning when more people say it together. Jallalla is an entire life in an album - beginning with what would be the sonic representation of pulling back reeds to discover a new path with the song Villazon-Potosi and its sparse electronic percussion gradually filled in with curiosity-giving winds. Following is joyful charango riff that becomes the base for the track La Frontera, which features the sweet, wispy voice of Minük, the Colombian artist Alejandra Ortiz, known as half of the duo Lulacruza.
