Sorceress is a 5 piece band from New Zealand formerly known as Funkommunity. Their debut album 'Chequered Thoughts' was widely acclaimed around the world and saw them tour Europe and Japan in 2012. The creative duo at the core of Sorceress is vocalist Rachel Fraser and producer/band leader Isaac Aesili.

Teacups is the first single from the forthcoming album 'Dose' by Sorceress due to drop in May 2014. Instrumentation interweaves with stratospheric synth textures creating a soulful space for the heavy vocals of Rachel Fraser. I made this with Sam in a hot LA apartment early this year. I was drinking from a selection of the finest 'novelty' size ice tea cans they do in the US and Sam had water. Also that seagull in the picture killed a pigeon while I was finishing this off. I saw it fall out of the sky. Quite majestic really - circle of life and that.

JJ’s groove is an homage to Montreal, which I’ve called home for the last 8 years. The boogie, Brazilian funk, and Afrobeat that you hear up and down Boulevard St. Laurent were big influences on the track - as was the overall joie de vivre of the city. 

As you might guess from the meek lyrical content and my conspicuous accent, this is one of the first times I’ve attempted to write a song in French. That being said, I felt it would be a good way to pay tribute to the city and culture that have given me so much.
