Shika Shika presents Forastero, the new full length album from Terror/Cactus that explores themes of identity, memory, perception, and mysticism. Forastero, which translates to “outsider” or “foreigner”, is a reflection on the experiences of immigrants, troubadours, and displaced people - bringing up feelings of isolation, solitude, and introspection, while simultaneously evoking the freedom of roaming in nature and dreaming of a world that is beyond borders. Featuring collaborations with artists such as Pahua, Rumbo Tumba, Barrio Lindo, and Corina Lawrence, Forastero encompasses a musical landscape filled with electronic folk, dark cumbia, and psychedelic beats.

The first single from Forastero features a collaboration with Mexican artist, Pahua. “Donde Estás Tú” blends Terror/Cactus’s dark bone-rattling beats with the dreamlike vocals of Paulina Sotomayor to transport the listener into a cavernous dimension filled with magic.

The focus track for the album, titled “Sombra”, is a dark psychedelic cumbia with vibrato guitars, deep 808’s, and glitched-out beats. Accompanied by a music video shot in a lush PNW forest, it is inspired by the song “Vidala para mi Sombra” by Argentine folk legend, Atahualpa Yupanqui. The music video uses modern dance to explore the idea of a shadow as a metaphor for the dark and mysterious parts of our being that follow us throughout life.

At Shika Shika we are delighted to present ATALAYA, new project by SPEC co-founder of Matanza, and Chilean singer-songwriter FERNANDO MILAGROS.
In their own words, ATALAYA delves into a glocal (global+local) sound, inspired by acoustic instruments, roots rhythms and vocals, all filtered through available technology, to shape a sonic and rhythmic experience.

 Their debut EP "La Sed" features 4 tracks that undoubtedly surprise, through new rhythmic explorations and the power to transform folk-spirited songs into deep danceable tracks.

Following on from their many mutual remixes and first collaborative EP “Pleamar” (Wonderwheel Recordings 2020) Chancha Via Circuito y El Búho return with a new EP “Tenalach" which sees the duo enter new territories and soundscapes. This mysterious, atmospheric and melancholic EP is like the soundtrack to a videogame that takes place in a strange and wonderful parallel universe. Imagine Zelda set in the jungles and mountains of Latin America.

Croaking frogs sit next to driving snares on the genre-defying Sapo Cururú, birds float above strobing synths on Oropéndola while Sumay’s epic synth lines melt into Chancha’s trademark percussions on Sumay. Opener El Samurai is perhaps the closest to the pair’s well-known folktronic sound, marrying cowbells with bowing violins and its animal-esque synth line.

While the BPM may have risen, this is neither ‘downtempo’ nor ‘umtempo’ and an EP that cannot easily be pigeon-holed - it is fresh and original. It also reflects a darker side to the pair’s music, a sub-conscious reflection of a changing world, holding in each song a constant tension and the desire to escape to new realities where the connection between humans and nature is blurred and equal.

Shika Shika presents A Guide to the Birdsong of Migration, the fourth volume in its acclaimed A Guide to the Birdsong series.

This unique project brings together the songs of birds with the talent of artists from across the Americas, exploring in this edition stories of migration, birds and musicians who share the same routes.
This release features nine migratory artists from eight countries, including: Mas Aya & Lido Pimienta (CA/CO), Valesuchi (CL), Biomigrant (US), Diana Gameros (MX), Lagartijeando (AR), Terror/Cactus (AR) and more.
It also features some incredible bird species whose journeys mirror those of the artists themselves: the Canada Warbler (Reinita Canadiense), which travels a huge distance from Colombia to Canada, echoing Lido Pimienta’s own path between those two lands; the Rufa Red Knot, or “Moonbird,” which has flown the equivalent distance to the moon, reflected in Valesuchi’s own family history of migration across continents; the Buff-breasted Sandpiper, covering over 30,000 km a year, just as Biomigrant has traced his own musical journey across the Americas; and the Sandhill Crane, whose endurance and grace resonate with Diana Gameros’ story of resilience as a migrant navigating life between Mexico and the U.S.

Nicola Cruz re-visits his second album 'Siku', released earlier this year to widespread acclaim, with ‘Siku Reworks’. The release provides the listener with another perspective on the ‘Siku’ domain, one envisioned in different corners of the world; Argentina, the UK, and Japan to name a few.  In an effort to unlink the original material, Cruz has selected producers to re-work a designated song on 'Siku' according to their own style. Additionally, Cruz has chosen to re-record two tracks whose live versions have stuck with him throughout a year of constant touring.

   ‘Siku Reworks’ invokes a psychedelic view of the original material, Hermetics (R&S) provides deep atmospherics with his take on 'Obsidiana' and Nicola offers an acid-merengue-infused live version of 'Señor de las Piedras' alongside an infectious and club-ready re-work of live favourite 'Siete'. In some ways it's hard to define Nicola's sound, shaped by years of global touring, and every track here is unique and succeeds in breaking from the usual electronic music format in captivating fashion.
