Time to welcome more new, undiscovered talent to the fold, this time we give you Sheffield producer thatmanmonkz with an amazing EP entitled Please Don’t Slip, Trip Or Fall Off. thatmanmonkz came to our attention last year when his track That Would Be Alright appeared on Tone Control Music. The low-slung, bluesy inflections combined with Moodymann-esqe vocals and deep pads had us instantly hooked so when he presented us with three brand new tracks for Delusions Of Grandeur we literally bit his hand off.

On the A side we have Girl I Know It which, if ever we’re asked to define a D.O.G sound, pretty much sums it up perfectly. The whole track is built around a super-fat, looped up bassline which adds a real energy and drive. Chuck in a great vocal hook, flapping kicks and rattling hats and you’ve got a peaktime smash which sounds completely fresh whilst staying true to the blueprint of classic house.

Flip over for Blowin’ My Mind which nudges down the BPM a touch for an amazing jazz-inflicted mid-tempo house jam. Once again, thatmanmonkz lets his hip-hop roots shine with MPC beats laying the foundation for the raw bass samples and dusty rhodes.

Finally, things get super-sultry on Be With Me featuring the vocals of Dnae. Compressed pads set the mood on this lovely, soulful number but once again, things are kept raw, fresh and bumpy thanks to the beat programming skills of thatmanmonkz. We absolutely love this release and hope you share our excitement in the obvious talent of this UK producer.

SELLIER - This Feeling (VANTAGE REMIX)

Since I started to work more with sampled elements in my productions recently, I remember how much I loved oldschool Hip-Hop and particularly Boom Bap beats for exactly that sound that only sampled vinyl seems to enable. This evening, I experimented with remixing the beat of the allmighty @apollobrown into a more danceable house beat. This is a very rough outline of what I came up with within the hour I sat down to experiment. The source is Apollo Brown - Black Pearls mixed with some 90s House sample CD material (check out my recent post for more on that). PREMIERE : Harry Wolfman & Loz Goddard - Neck Of The Woods [Dirt Crew]

If you heard our top 100 2015, you probably remember Liem's "If Only I Could", a feel-good deep house anthem released via the German label Lehult as part of a split release with Lucky Charmz. Early February, Lehult is turning up the heat with another big EP, this time by a young Hamburg based producer who goes by the name of Eddie Ness and already made an appearance on the imprint last year. The four tracker is entitled "Afro" and includes three original tracks, "Ombré" premiered here, "Afro" and "Menjou" as well as a Borrowed Identity remix of "Ombré". Like most Lehult records, it's quality, and it's probably going to end up with silly prices on Discogs, so you'd better not sleep on this one!

@LozGoddard joins Team Bad in the third installment of the @Quartetseries with the B1 cut, “Home”. Stepping away from his usual sample-oriented and fairly lighthearted sound, he contributes a hypnotizing, synth-heavy stomper. This groovy number revolves around an arpeggiated acid lead with a soulful vocal that fits perfectly despite the contrast. A secondary arpeggiated synth line whirls and mesmerizes while aggressive snares and machine-like claps propel the groove. Some tension is relieved temporarily with warm chords and a top end string before resuming to deliver the punishment on the Good Guys.

The stand out on the 'Approaching Lights' EP is ‘Burning Up’, a track driven by a flexing harpsichord riff that is as languid as it is funky and underpinned by a swaggering bassline that interplays expertly with earthy percussion.
