The plight is far too tragic even for a sad lament.
A minute's silence would be the only true fitting sound.
But my soul demands I lay bare my feelings to those who will hear.
And so, I write this down.
And so, I bear witness.
​There are too many layers to this whole dark affair:
It’s the geography, the people's very mindset, the cowardice and the sheer pluck, and the overwhelming power of the foe.
And above all else, their deception.
​They boast that we don't drop to our knees for the fallen on the shield,
“It's mere posturing,” they claim, and their populace believes.
For they hold no true regard for the troops they employ.
But you can't lie to the folks in my village,
You can't lie to the one who sees this now.
And I feel no shame when I take a knee—
Quite the opposite, I am proud of the sacrifice that I have seen.
Rest in peace, my noble brothers.
​We all get the leaders we deserve in the end.
Our neighbours, and the state of our own doorstep.
We raise them up and we look after them.
It’s foolish to point the finger for our own troubles.
​But!
​How and if we live depends only on us. The enemy is stronger, but we are enough to secure the victory.
Wading through the political mire, philosophising, making a profit from misery – only a precious few will survive this.
So, you gamblers, keep spinning your wheel then.
​To those prepared to fight with their hand or their voice:
I hope you raise a generation of merit who will remember the events of two thousand and fourteen for centuries.
And carry this through the ages.
