Vera Moro (she/her), a dynamic and queer Brussels-based DJ and performer, weaves her diverse musical background into mesmerizing performances that transcend genres. Hailing from Verona, Italy, and having spent formative years in Chile before settling in Brussels, Vera seamlessly blends guaracha, latincore, breakbeat, hardgroove, and progressive trance in her sets. Passionate about using music for decolonization and queer expression, Vera is a driving force in Brussels' flourishing queer scene. As a co-founder of Viciosa and resident DJ for Deep Down East and Queer Future Club, she actively collaborates with queer organizations across Europe, working towards creating safer and more inclusive spaces in the nightlife scene.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How was your first DJ gig?
𝙑𝙀𝙍𝘼: My first gig ever was something I wouldn't recommend to any newcomer. The first time I touched some CDJs was at Kiosk Radio, in Brussels. The collective Missfitte invited me to play a slot for March 8th and I accepted without having any idea of what I was doing. The beginning of the set was a disaster but luckily enough at some point all the lights and energy went off and Kiosk lost the recording of the first half of my set and only gave me the second half which was at least listenable. 

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Is djing a method of self-expression or a cool hobby?
𝙑𝙀𝙍𝘼: One doesn’t go without the other I guess. At first, I didn’t think I was gonna find such an amazing way to express my personality and my own style. I learned to appreciate that little by little. It’s definitely one of the nicest hobbies you can have but it is first of all a job that needs time, effort, dedication, and love.

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: What does it mean for you to be a queer DJ in Brussels?
𝙑𝙀𝙍𝘼: I’m so deeply happy to be part of the queer scene in Brussels. Nowadays, queer djs and collectives represent the real hype here, there’s a real interest surrounding them. What’s dearest to me are the friendships and bonds transcending collectives that allow us to create a real and solid queer safety net, a treasure that I’m willing to expand and protect. 

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: How do you stay focused on your goals?
𝙑𝙀𝙍𝘼: In a way, I have no choice. Djing has become my priority and my main source of income now. The real question is how can I think about something else ??? 

𝙑𝙎𝙇𝙆: Your wishes towards the universe for the near future:
𝙑𝙀𝙍𝘼: In these tumultuous and scary times, I hope people will come together through music. I hope we’ll be able to stand together for the rights of all oppressed people. I take the electronic scene in Kyiv and Ukraine in general as a life example to follow: they’re showing such strength and resilience that should only be admired and respected.
