El Remolon reaches deep down into his bag of tricks for a global bass inspired journey through the jungle, calling on a cast of producers from around the world to remix his 5th studio album, Selva. 

On his 2014 album El Remolon took us on a journey through mystic Peruvian jungles and the Buenos Aires rat race, intent on connecting the listener with a cosmic cumbia visceral experience no matter the environment.  On it we heard Rhodes pianos, shamanic ritual chants and a whole lot of bass.  The record, heavy in collaborations, featured Buenos Aires hip hop/dancehall/cumbia starlet Miss Bolivia, Ali Gua Gua from the Kumbia Queers and the masked Dengue Dengue Dengue from Peru, to name a few.  This time around El Remolon calls on producers from all corners of the globe to give their signature touches to Selva.   

  Remixers from Australia, Belgium, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Spain and Germany lend their wares for a truly “global bass” affair.  The Ecuadorian Nicola Cruz, ZZK’s newest signee, ever so intricately strips down Lido Pimienta’s Vestido, whereas cumbia meets trap on Flashback from one of the rising producers of the Buenos Aires digital cumbia scene, Esmink.  Chancha Via Circuito lends his signature hypnotic drum patterns on Energia Natural and Barrio Lindo closes out the album with an introspective dream quest with Mariela Gerez’s Quechua lyrics floating in space on Poyeyu.

Luego del lanzamiento de “Amansará”, tercer LP de Chancha Via Circuito, alterego del productor argentino Pedro Canale, sale a la luz “Amansará Remixed”, álbum compilado de reversiones, editado en Argentina a través de Estamos Felices, en USA y Oceanía a través de Wonderwheel Recordings, y en Europa y Asia por Crammed Disc. Si en Amansará (2014) terminaba de consolidarse como uno de los referentes del nuevo sonido latinoamericano a nivel global, en este nuevo trabajo Pedro se da el gusto de convocar a distintos productores de Latinoamérica y el mundo para que reinterpreten su universo a su propio parecer.

Entre las colaboraciones más destacadas aparecen artistas que van desde los Frikstailers a Tremor, pasando por Thornato, King Coya y El Búho, además de él mismo, que, bajo su anterior alias "Universildo", se anima a reinterpretar su track "Coplita", single elegido por Estamos Felices para promocionar este nuevo trabajo.

En “Amansará”, la música de Chancha Via Circuito funcionaba como una reformulación de la world music latinoamericana, dando lugar a fusiones inauditas donde se procesaban ritmos originarios del Brasil, arpas paraguayas, mística andina, la soledad pampeana del folklore argentino y la proyección espacial de la música electrónica futurista post dubstep. En “Amansará Remixed”, los sonidos de Chancha se animan a viajar hacia nuevas latitudes, siendo catalizados por distintas manos maestras, quienes, cada uno a su modo, potencian este universo sonoro llevándolo hacia territorios desconocidos. 

El disco cuenta además con la participación especial de Acampante, artista multifacético argentino, quien se anima a reversionar la ilustración original, cuadro "Madadayo" de la artista plástica Paula Duró.

Chancha Via Circuito - Coplita (Universildo Remix)

The mysterious Leipzig based duo JAJA released one of favourite albums of 2016 (Tropical Bird Club) on ynfnd (you need friends not discs) and we have been waiting to release something from them on Shika Shika ever since! 

For this Botanas, JAJA serve us up two humid, organic tracks seeped in dark green vegetation and marked by screeching birds from the canopy and mysterious voices from the forest floor. One for the deep groove.

We celebrate two years of Shika Shika with the release of our third compilation: Eco. 

Eco sums up what Shika Shika is about - the global reverberations of styles, genres, traditions and sounds moving around the world and fusing to create inspiring new music. We call it music without borders and on Eco we present 11 tracks that are exactly that. 

The tracks we hand-picked for Eco draw inspiration from traditional rhythms, stories and melodies and fuse them with individual inspirations, sounds from nature and electronic music. This is exemplified on Di Laif’s anthemic opener “Paso Por el Fuego” or Guazú’s incredible “Pava de Monte” featuring Wenceslada. Some artists like Jin Jerei and Oxhalá take us on a journey deep into their roots while others like Didacte and O.R. create atmospheric textural, electronic-organic soundscapes. Ibu Selva’s “Chega de Esperar” is a rework of a Brazilian agrarian reform anthem while Klik & Frik offer up a beautiful edit of Hassan Ben Jaafar, a master of Moroccan Gnawa music. 

It is hard to believe it has been two years since Shika Shika was started as a platform to showcase some of the music we truly loved from the thriving community from Sao Paulo to Seoul. Two years of connections, exchanges, ideas, new sounds and, most of all, incredible support and feedback from the people who listen & buy this music all over the world. We started Shika Shika as a way to give exposure and support to this community, sharing 70% of all the profits with the artists directly, and are inspired to continue pushing the music we love.

World BEAThoven Project:

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of nature enthusiast, humanist, visionary and composition genius Ludwig van Beethoven, an international network under the direction and idea of ​​cultural manager Darius Darek (Taxi MunDJal MusiX) produced an extraordinary album: Twenty melodies from Beethoven's works were recorded on non-European musical instruments by musicians based in the Cologne-Bonn region. This sample databank was created under the direction of Hans Zimmer's sample library developer Felix Ohlert and was then used by music producers worldwide as the basis for new tracks of electronic music.
The album now being released will be presented at festivals and in clubs and rearranged for a 35-piece brass orchestra (Youth Brass Band NRW).

As Darius Darek's academic background is geography, he has implemented sustainable, degrowth and minimalism based, fair, green, common-good-oriented and alternative ways of life into this music project. A transdisciplinary designed artivism towards a socio-ecological transformation: 

- to promote „cultural diversity“ the project is a collaboration with musicians of diverse music cultures to record a sample databank.

- to promote „cultural heritage“ the project aims to upcycle & remix almost forgotten music by worldwide electronic music producers.

- to promote „creative commons“ the sample databank and the remixes can be used and listened to for free.

- to promote „socio-ecological projects“ the remixes are presented at green, transformational or zero waste festivals, at intergenerational bicycle rides or in „freeboxes“ (https://tinyurl.com/freeboxvideo).

- to include „citizen participation“ a random local youth involvement and a worldwide production contest (in cooperation with Arts Council England) were carried out: www.globallocal.co.uk/remixspace/

- the project thus supports some of the sustainable development goals (SDGs): reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, quality education, gender equality and climate action.
