After the debut EP by ĂVEM at the end of last year, the second EP of the Viennese Label Heimlich Musik comes from Beirut-based producer Rabih Rizk. With releases on Wildfang Musik, Lump Records and Magician On Duty, Rabih Rizk already earned reputation within the community. His ‘Sleep’ EP contains two original tracks and two remixes by Landhouse & Raddantze from Karlsruhe and well-known member of Matanza, Rodrigo Gallardo. Both original tracks are strongly driven by emotions reflecting the feeling of solitude. According to the artist, ‘Sleep’ expresses his own personal relationship towards anxiety while ‘Phone Index’ tells a story about being alone somewhere in the middle of the night filled with the emptiness of waiting for a phone call. These melancholic thoughts are expressed through the dark vocals as well as through the rolling basslines and fragile pads you can hear in both original tracks. With their remix, Landhouse & Raddantze delivered a version of ‘Sleep’ that is even more dreamy than the original without losing their individual signature style while focusing on the vocal lines. Well-established artist Rodrigo Gallardo created a powerful banger that seems to be made for the dancefloor by adding flute sounds reflecting the melodies of the original track. While working with rhythmic arpeggio-lines, Gallardo gives his remix extra power through surrounding the melodic parts with strong sub-basses. The mood that was established with the first EP on Heimlich Musik by the end of last year is continued with this EP without losing an individual style when it comes to aesthetics and arrangements of the original tracks and the remixes.

World BEAThoven Project:

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of nature enthusiast, humanist, visionary and composition genius Ludwig van Beethoven, an international network under the direction and idea of ​​cultural manager Darius Darek (Taxi MunDJal MusiX) produced an extraordinary album: Twenty melodies from Beethoven's works were recorded on non-European musical instruments by musicians based in the Cologne-Bonn region. This sample databank was created under the direction of Hans Zimmer's sample library developer Felix Ohlert and was then used by music producers worldwide as the basis for new tracks of electronic music.
The album now being released will be presented at festivals and in clubs and rearranged for a 35-piece brass orchestra (Youth Brass Band NRW).

As Darius Darek's academic background is geography, he has implemented sustainable, degrowth and minimalism based, fair, green, common-good-oriented and alternative ways of life into this music project. A transdisciplinary designed artivism towards a socio-ecological transformation: 

- to promote „cultural diversity“ the project is a collaboration with musicians of diverse music cultures to record a sample databank.

- to promote „cultural heritage“ the project aims to upcycle & remix almost forgotten music by worldwide electronic music producers.

- to promote „creative commons“ the sample databank and the remixes can be used and listened to for free.

- to promote „socio-ecological projects“ the remixes are presented at green, transformational or zero waste festivals, at intergenerational bicycle rides or in „freeboxes“ (https://tinyurl.com/freeboxvideo).

- to include „citizen participation“ a random local youth involvement and a worldwide production contest (in cooperation with Arts Council England) were carried out: www.globallocal.co.uk/remixspace/

- the project thus supports some of the sustainable development goals (SDGs): reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, quality education, gender equality and climate action.

I come from South America, I am an immigrant from the Southern Hemisphere living in North America. I make music inspired by the sounds of the Earth, in the folklore of my culture and the other cultures of the world that cultivate these sounds. When I arrived in Canada, my dream was to share a different way of understanding music, life, the Universe, this is how Cosmovision Records was born with Don Mescal and all our other friends.

Right now my country Chile is experiencing a crisis, social networks seem to be the ones who “help” but as this song says, “it is difficult to find clarity in the shadow, when the sun that shines on us fades the truth” This song invites us to reflect, to seek calm, spirituality and wisdom, to find the truth within us, which is the only way to illuminate our path in this life.

Victor Jara represents a lot to me, it is the idealism of building a better world for everyone. Today we need a world that moves slower, is more spiritual, more aware of the Earth, more vegetarian, more cyclist, less dependent on disposable technologies and I feel that all of us who are part of this global multi cultural music community, in a way we are part of that change, we start from the music, but we advance to the stars!

Vengo de Sudamérica, soy un inmigrante del Hemisferio Sur viviendo en Norteamérica. Ahora mismo mi país Chile vive una crisis, las redes sociales parecen ser quienes ¨ayudan¨ pero como dice esta canción, muchas veces ¨es difícil encontrar en la sombra claridad, cuando el sol que nos alumbra descolora la verdad¨  Esta canción invita a reflexionar, a buscar la calma, la espiritualidad y la sabiduría, encontrar la verdad en nuestro interior, que es la única forma de iluminar nuestro camino en esta vida. 

Victor Jara representa mucho para mí, es el idealismo de construir un mundo mejor para todos. Hoy necesitamos un mundo que se mueva más lento, sea más espiritual, más consciente de la Tierra, más vegetariano, más bicicletero, menos dependiente de las tecnologías desechables y siento que todos quienes formamos parte de esta comunidad musical global, en cierta forma somos parte de ese cambio, partimos desde la música, pero avanzamos hasta las estrellas!

Populous, aka Andrea Mangia, is a DJ and producer hailing from Lecce, in Southern Italy, known for his global approach to music-making. “Soy Lo Que Soy”, the new single from his upcoming ‘W’ album, is a song about finding your true self. Populous teamed up with Mexico City digital cumbia mavens Sotomayor to portray the more femine side of his music. “Soy Lo Que Soy” is just that- being true to and embracing oneself on all levels, fusing strong dreamy melodies with deep synths and Latin beats. 

With a background in musicology, Populous has always been interested in disparate genres and styles of music, which is reflected in the output from the Populous project and its focus on Latin American sounds as refracted through a European lens. In 2003, Mangia made his first jaunt into the music world with the album ‘Quipo’ (via Morr Music), followed by ‘Queue For Love’ in 2005. Influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy’s Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) he released ‘Drawn in Basic’ in 2008, which was well received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global dance music map. The 2010s have seen Mangia refine the Populous sound with albums like ‘Night Safari’ (Bad Panda Records) and ‘Azulejos’ (Wonderwheel Recordings), while also expanding his role as a sound designer for fashion houses such as Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, Isabel Marant, and Elie Saab, among others.
