World Canvas has the pleasure to present a new body of work ‘Connaissance par les gouffres’ by Spanish artist Contacto (David H. Martí). On their sophomore musical release the artist explores a sonic narrative forming from emotionally present synthesiser pieces, interwoven with ambiguous rhythmic patterns which contribute to the release's overall themes of journey and the eventual discovery.
Inspired by the titular piece of writing by Henri Michaux, Contacto’s musical oeuvre finds it’s rooting in the ideas of self-discovery. The starting point might not determine the way the journey pans out, as well as where the traveler might end up at the conclusion of their endeavours. As Martí’s 6-song piece of work forms an immersive world of mystery and intrigue, it’s calling the listener to explore one’s own emotional landscape, through which find refuge and bliss.

We're proud to present ‘Florilegi II’ (a ‘collection of flowers’ in Catalan). It's the second edition of our compilation, which continues the project’s mission to highlight some of the most exciting sounds emerging from the Barcelona's growing musical ecosystem.

The first half of the compilation opens in a landscape washed with glacial drones. ‘nous’ by Mark Allen Soul & bl nua sets the stage for the masterfully composed string meditations of nara is neus’ ‘venjança per a cor i orquestra’. From there, the mood shifts into the chopped-and-screwed sensibility of ssonne’s ‘bizz’, followed by the washed-out dub-techno drift of EYRA’s ‘Meander’. The downtempo current continues with the hardware jam turned lullaby ‘Fayos’ from Phran & Chica Acosta, leading into the bass-driven dembow of DJ COLL’s ‘2AM’ and the unclassifiable percussive heater ‘mädel maluca’ by DJ SOSA RD.

Continuing to broaden the scope, the second half arrives with force. ‘Alright’ by ekyo scatters the low end, followed by Hagamos Ruido’s break-laden roars on ‘Tigre Viejo’. fks pushes the boundaries of guaracha with ‘garra y ruido’, while Santos Santos pulls up the energy into a broken-beat two-step groove on ‘Gremlin’. Next YearsAstray unleashes a wriggly electro workout on ‘Cuereta blanca’, leading into Cyberia’s dissected phonk study ‘If you get the lore’ and abstract vocalist Adelaida paints a dream with ‘SE12’. Floating us back to solid ground, the compilation closes with two reflective pieces: the emotional ambience of Nora Haddad’s ‘Beachouse’ and the delicate calm of Lidna’s ‘Balada para mí’.

Abundance is dedicated to championing local talent as a non-profit artistic collective, record label and promoter. This second compilation places the platform at the forefront of experimentation and collaboration in Barcelona, connecting emerging and established artists while widening the spotlight across the city’s musical landscape and opening new possibilities for the future.

Introducing on World Canvas: Nettles - MALIBU. The debut album of Helsinki-based producer and cross-media artist Nooa Paukkunen.

Interspersed with varied electronic instrumentation, voice memos and field recordings, Nettles’s debut album carries a sense of intimacy throughout its seven songs. The minimalist compositions give room for sonic ideas to grow beyond what’s laid out on the surface to something larger - an assemblage of synthezised and cracks between private and resonant.
