Through his Sonic Fiction residency on Radio Tempo Nao Para, and Sunday Sedatives podcast for RPU, Tosh has been feeding our ears with ambient soundscapes and eclectic selections opening our minds for some time now. But at a TNP event at De Schietclub, we discovered another side of his selection as together with Marijn S they elevated an already steamy room with a breaks and techno selection of very high caliber. It caught our ears and called for more.

Tosh offered us a podcast that goes back to the core of house and techno as the Detroit legends defined both genres. The selection is surgical, the mixing organic, and the journey groovy and hypnotic. About this recording, he had a few words to share:

"For me, the center of mass of this mix rests on an amazing record by a Dutch producer, Alex Dijksterhuis, that I have been after for quite some time. When I walked into Killacutz a month ago, Richard said he finally found a second copy (the first one was for his own collection and we listened to it in the store together. With these old records, every one of them has its own unique balance in sound. After the first section, when the breaks come in, it feels like the low-end suddenly opens up in the most beautiful way - and that “you're on my mind” vocal gets me every time!"

This mix is the craft of a great selector. One that breathes music, and searches for deeper meanings and connections. Tosh is more than an artist; he is also a builder and one that silently instils dynamism and openness for both the culture and communities that surround him.

This week’s New Music Worldwide comes from Youandewan. 

Since the release of his first record in 2008, DJ and producer Youandewan has been quietly forging his own idiosyncratic take on house and techno.
Born in Scotland, raised in Yorkshire and living in Berlin since 2013, Ewan Smith's productions blend influences from across the electronic spectrum.

A penchant for deeper shades of introspection works in tandem with a knack for kinetic and club-focused grooves - ably demonstrated by his releases on labels like Voyage, Cabinet, Secretsundaze, Aus Music (home to his 2016 debut long-player There Is No Right Time) and his own The Brane imprint.

Acclaimed DJ sets at clubbing institutions such as Fabric, Panorama Bar and DC10 have seen Ewan mature into a skilled and versatile selector - with a record bag that collects the best bits of vintage UK tech house, acid-laced cruisers and deeper strains of golden-era house and techno. 

For his NMW mix, Youandewan examines these diverse styles with his usual ear for trippy, cerebral moods and driving rhythms - all delivered with the finesse of a seasoned jock.

In steps Priori, who is one of this years stand out emergences from Montreal, aka the locale of the world’s almost unanimously agreed and revered hot bed of upcoming underground talent. His much followed output via several of his alias' as well as Co-founding NAFF along side his good friend Ex-Terrestrial, is seemingly forming a new movement of experimental, yet almost classically dance floor focused music. Whether or not this is intentional is not for us to know and whether you know it or not, you're listening to it, enjoying it and it's taking the dance music community by storm.

Priori manages to encapsulate this in his hour for us, expect stripped back dubbed out tunes, more melodic periods interspersed with harder pulsating no nonsense warehouse vibes. Whatever the tone of music there is little dalliance away from that razor sharp, industrial edges which have made that Montreal sound so infamous for.
