✈ SLEAZY IN BRAZIL ✈

Brazil's rich and rhythmic musical history roots its development all the way back to the first Native Americans, who paired rituals and worship with a blend of panpipes, rattlers and other early instruments. As early as the 17th century, the musical influence of the slaves from Africa added the contrast of their own traditional instrument, the drum. Added to that, Portuguese colonists, whose selection of instruments included the mandolin, ukulele and of course the guitar, sang ballads and put the love and passion into the already vibrant melting pot of musical magic.

And that's why Sleazy finds himself fascinated by this particular strand of good-time music. All the different influences that go into Brazil's past and current state makes its music a sound that sticks to it's roots but can gladly be inspired by new styles. This month's soundcast starts us off flying into Rio in the 1960s, excited and at awe by the city's vibrancy and passion for music. We move through guitar based ballads and odes to the country, 70s soul and funk whose influence by Western movements never shakes it's true roots in Brazilian rhythm, and of course infectious samba that always makes the world shake.

Solid Steel (31st March) We're delighted to welcome Little Dragon to Solid Steel this week. The Grammy-nominated band have announced their long-awaited new album ‘Season High’, which is out on April 14th on Because Music http://little-dragon.net They recently dropped the track 'Sweet' from the album and before that the track 'High', which saw the remix by Michael Uzowuru & Jeff Kleinman getting it's Premiere by Pharrell on his Beats 1 show. The band are set to embark on an extensive World tour in support of ‘Season High’, which includes Coachella, Parklife, Sonar, Bestival and a date at the Roundhouse in London in October. Music featured in the mix includes Big Sean, Jimi Hendrix, Johnnie Frierson, Martyn, the Kaytranada mix for Teedra Moses and Bryson Tiller. Solid Steel (2nd June) It's a special Stones Throw takeover this week, with label founder Peanut Butter Wolf heading up the show exactly 20 years after he first appeared on Solid Steel in 1997 (which you can also hear at http://solidsteel.net/broadcasts/1069), followed by jazz drummer and producer extraordinaire Karriem Riggins. 

Back in the summer of 1997, Peanut Butter Wolf paid a visit to the Ninja Tune studio in Clink Street, South London to record a mix. His label Stones Throw had started the year before and a handful of those early tracks featured in his mix. Two decades later Stones Throw is still going strong, having seen releases over the years from the likes of Madlib and his alter ego Quasimoto, MF Doom, J Dilla, Cut Chemist, J Rocc, The Stepkids, Dam Funk, Jonwayne and a whole host of quality reissues. His new mix contains some unreleased Stones Throw tracks alongside some incredibly rare gems and he told us; 
"I tried to include a combo of my old records, some yet-to-be released Stones Throw stuff and some unreleased demos from artists w/o a label. Hope you enjoy every second of every song."

George Rallis was born and raised in the 80's in a suburb of Athens . He showed his interest in music,thus in DJing in his teenage years by playing his records and cassettes to friends parties and that before he bought his first dj set. Lover of music and its different genres, his lunch money was translated into cassettes, CD's and records. After doing several jobs he finally "landed" at his current one which is sales assistant at Underflow record store-live stage without forgetting his first and long-last love of djing-which in his own mind is showing, sharing and giving to the people new music.
