With influences ranging from early house and disco to turntablism and techno, Brett Johnson successfully straddles the line between knowledgeable "thinking man's" DJ and genuine, primal floor-filler. Brett's sound is best known as groovy, bumping house.
Releasing his first record in 1999 on the now defunct, Aesoteric Records, Brett has released over 100 records and remixes for some of dance music's best labels. The list includes Crosstown Rebels, Classic Music Company, 20/20 Vision, Get Physical, Visionquest, Magnetic, Freerange, Cynosure, F-Communications; the list goes on and on. Originally released on 12" vinyl in November 2001, The Zen Approach by Pete Moss was the 12th label release on Worship Recordings.

Original notes: 
Pete Moss, originally hailing from Boston and now a Philadelphia local, needs little introduction to the deep house massive. His music and remixes have bean picked up by many of the leading labels of taday, including Earthtones (now Seasons), Grayhound, Large, Alola, Dessous, DiY and more. In addition, Pete has been good to the Philly scene, remixing und doing original work for local imprints Worship, Ovum, and Society Hill since he moved to the 215. 

Worship is honored to have been blessed with his first EP for the label and we know you are gonna be feeling it from the drop of the needle...

Side A kicks off with "R U Serious", This is Pete Moss at his best, a moving kick and a dubby bassline covered in lush pads and a chopped up female vocal line. This one will move the floor! Simple yet complex and tight as hell...

Next up, "Desert Lightning" is deep and moody, featuring a rumbling bassline and a dark filtered vocal sample. Textbook Moss deepness... one for those LATE nights.

Finally we have more quality work on the back side with "Make it Werk". Another deep affair with a subtle bassline, delayed string stabs and a cool, trippy panned vocal snippet.

Here's the tribute to Larry Levan we did on what would have been on his 70th birthday at the Castletown Distillery in Newcastle Under Lyme. Hopefully different enough from the set Frank and I did on the following Friday at the Social in London for them both to be enjoyable. Kelvin defnitely brought a different vibe to the party and even played a track I didn't know!

Worship Recordings was established in the summer of 1998 in Philadelphia by Rob Paine. The concept was simple at first: they just wanted to put out their own music their own way. After the first few releases it became clear that they had dropped in on a genre of house music that has slowly but surely come to fruition, now being labeled by the massive as "dub house". They knew they were not the first to use the influence of Jamaican reggae music as a foundation for their house productions, but they definitely wanted to continue to push it to new heights in both the house community and progressive reggae scene. 

What started out as an in-house production label, Worship soon started to sign like- minded artists such as: Garth, Chris Udoh, Pete Moss, Solomonic Sound, Hakan Lidbo, Jay Tripwire and Grant Dell- just to name a few. Some Worship releases are more dub than house and vice versa - but all releases are pure quality. From the music’s production quality to the legendary KLH art work and right down to the packaging, Worship Recordings is never slacking. They continue to explore new methods of using reggae and house music side by side to reach lovers of both sounds and to unite them in the dance hall as ONE.
