September 20th marks the 30th birthday of Berlin pianist Nils Frahm, but also the day he has chosen to give his fans a special gift in the form of 9 songs he recorded with 9 fingers, entitled 'Screws'.

Nils experienced an unfortunate accident which saw him fall from his bunk bed located directly above his studio, which resulted in a broken thumb. But through inspiration from his fans and after a gentle walk and talk through the park with a close friend, he decided to deal with the situation in the only way he knew – playing his piano.

With four screws surgically placed inside his thumb, he started recording with his remaining 9 fingers, what later resulted in 9 intimate piano recordings.

'I am sitting in front of a sheet of paper. My right hand is bending over my left thumb. The first day I got out of my cast I could bend it by 15°. Now I am already at 50° and that makes me happy. Things are going uphill...

As you can imagine, it is really bad news for a pianist when he gets diagnosed with a broken thumb. That day I was sitting in the emergency room, feeling rather dizzy while thinking of a zillion shows coming up and all the people involved around it. I realised in that moment how busy things have become. It is hard to turn down interesting projects and opportunities, since I surely love my work. It actually never felt like work. Playing piano and playing it for wonderful people is the greatest joy I can imagine.

For a couple of days I felt like this all could be over. How pathetic. But hey – also feeling sorry for yourself has its place somewhere. All of a sudden I had so much time, an unexpected holiday. I cancelled most of my schedule and found myself being a little bored. Even though my doctor told me not to touch a piano for a while, I just couldn't resist. I started playing a silent song with 4 fingers on my left and the remaining 5 on my right hand. I set up one microphone and recorded another tune every other night before falling asleep.

The day I got rid of my cast I had recorded 9 little tunes. They have helped me feel less annoyed about my accident and reminded me that any good is something I can only achieve, when I am making the most out of what I've got.

YUNA to Release ‘Sixth Street’ Digital EP on May 7, 2013;

(Los Angeles, CA) – Internationally praised Malaysian-born songstress YUNA will release her new digital EP titled ‘Sixth Street,’ on May 7, 2013 via Verve Records/Indie-Pop Music.  ‘Sixth Street’ will be YUNA’s first release with Verve Records, and serves as the follow up to her debut self-titled album, ‘Yuna,’ that was released last year.
 

YUNA explains, “‘Sixth Street’ is probably a new chapter for me.  All of the songs were written in my apartment where I’m most comfortable, and at that point I understood who I was and knew what I was feeling about life.”
 

To celebrate the release of the EP, YUNA has teamed up with virtual venue platform Stageit, who will host the EP release show.  By choosing an online partner to live-stream the performance, it allows all of her fans, regardless of where they’re located worldwide, to attend the event.  A ticket for the show is $10 and can be purchased here.  Tickets will give fans access to the live feed, where YUNA will be performing songs from the EP and other favorites.
 

LA Weekly will also be hosting a contest titled “I Wanna Go” See Yuna. Syncing up with the name of her forthcoming single, “I Wanna Go,” five lucky winners will be selected to come to the Indie-Pop Offices, where the filming will be broadcast out of, and see the show in-person. Already recognized worldwide, 2012 served as YUNA’s breakout year in North America.  With her debut, Rolling Stone championed her as having, “certified indie cred and massive pop potential,” and Complex described her as, “a deeply refreshing addition to America’s musical landscape.”  She’s performed on national television, was a finalist for MTV Iggy’s “Best New Band In The World,” has had multiple songs featured in movies and on soundtracks, and played both Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo.  She recently appeared on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” where she performed her duet with multi-platinum recording artist OWL CITY, “Shine Your Way.”  The track can be heard here, and is the  theme song in Dream Works Animation’s 3D comedy, THE CROODS, in theatres now.

Hello girls & boys,

here's our new baby : "bedtime stories - sounds for a sweaty summer"... the idea behind this mix was to share some of the best tracks we've discovered in the past few months. as you can imagine, we weren't able to limit ourselves to new discoveries and ended up putting some old favorites into the stew.    
summer is always a very special moment for us as our music seems to be the product of warmth and sunshine. for those of you fortunate enough to head to the beach, we hope this will provide the perfect soundtrack for your barbecues, volley-ball games and poolside parties. for those of you who won't have the opportunity to take a vacation, let's hope this gives you a little bit of digital sunshine and puts a smile on your faces.
