How do we metabolise our shock and grief? What are the wrong things to say to someone who is suffering a loss? What are the five stages of grief? I try, in these loose 19 minutes on WPKN, to share my experience of this week's events.

Coziness. The word evokes warmth, blankets, mugs of hot cider, and peace. I've got my nook in the corner of my kitchen. The Danes call my rattan love seat near the window a "hyggekrog," and their preoccupation with happiness and comfort is detailed in at least 9 books this past year. The Dutch call it "gezzelig." Can we Americans get under blankets with other adults? Or is our version solo? When I heard myself say to my husband, as he addressed a tiny computer-like device the size of a hockey puck, "Don't talk to Alexa that way!" I knew I was already in trouble. I had rapidly anthropomorphized this new toy! I didn't want him to sound irritated with her. These days, I drift into the kitchen most mornings now, commanding this 'creature' (?) to tell me the weather, set a timer, choose my favorite radio station, etc. I'm a version of the futuristic diva I pictured becoming as a little girl. Dear listener, save me!
