Berlin’s Swarm Intelligence joins NEW YORK TRAX Imports to release four fierce, off-beat techno and electro cuts. Tense atmospherics, uncompromising levels of distortion and stark, astute beats constitute a distinctive sound that Swarm Intelligence has been honing for more than a decade seeing him release on labels such as VOITAX, Ad Noiseam, Earwiggle and many more. The Dublin-born, Berlin-based producer is certainly no stranger to the techno world and his reputation of performing menacing live sets and deploying emphatic productions will leave an enduring impression on any listener. ‘NEW YORK TRAX Imports 04’ sees Swarm Intelligence join the New York Trax sub-label following the likes of Drvg Cvltvre, Endlec, Dawid Dahl and Another Alias. ‘Bury’ begins proceedings with powerful, syncopated drums fused with growling oscillations and haunting leads before intense vibrations scattered around resilient percussion and machine-like synth swirls take the focus in ‘Extraction’. On the flip, ‘Verloren’ maintains the sinister atmospherics through distorted kicks, eerie modulations and alarming feels until ‘Reach’ which recorded live, rounds things off with shooting, laser zaps, dramatic soundscapes and broken rhythms emphatically closing this fiery four track EP.

The fourth release on Valentino Mora’s label, IDO, comes from a fresh, young French producer, Olorun. Olorun began making dark, atmospheric techno as Abrial, releasing 3 EPs under this guise, before directing his focus to explore the textured, minimal, and ambient musical aspects that have always fascinated him. As his approach became more contemplative, he began exploring different moods and a “sweetness and a kind of purity in music.” Through stepping back to examine the subtlety of texture, Olorun’s attention to natural landscapes increased. This encouraged him to name his new, more sensitive project ‘Olorun’; a personification of the natural elements in Santeria’s religion.

Considering Olorun’s affinity with the the natural landscape, it is understandable how the graphic work of Atif Akin on Moruroa’s Crack would provide the inspiration behind the productions that would become Moruroa EP. Conflicting emotions arise when considering the beauty, as well as the destruction, of Moruroa’s Crack, a site devastated by nuclear tests during the cold war. Olorun responded to these feelings through his interpretation of a “journey through the different islands of the archipelago.” Olorun invites the listener to reflect on the always conflicting relationship between humans and their environment.

Moruroa EP is an abstract research characterised by textured layers that form a hybrid construction between organic percussions and atmospheres, and synthesised sounds that remind the listener of humanity’s - often destructive - entanglement with nature. The first track of the A side, Yuki, is a mystical, experimental piece layered with tribal percussions that evoke the Pacific landscape while hints of uncertain mechanical sounds question humans use of nuclear testing in this peaceful environment. The deep and hypnotic atmosphere in Kodo is likely to induce an euphoric, meditative state on the dance-floor. On the B side, Moruroa is also one for the dance floor; a downtempo cut, with deep grooves and atmospheres that will transport the listener directly to the lush forests of the titles namesake. The final track, Tuamotu begins with indistinct voices, hinting perhaps at the secrecy behind the atomic tests at Moruroa. Hopeful drones coupled with soft, expectant percussions, elicit an air of mystery that leaves the listener desiring. Overall, Moruroa EP, has a captivating and intriguing energy that maintains the deep, meditative and spiritual identity IDO has carved for itself.

Debuting on Rekids, Laurent Garnier & Chambray collaborate for a colossal single entitled ‘Feelin’ Good’ featuring two outstanding remixes from label owner Radio Slave.

Having supported Rekids for many years in his sets across the globe, it only made sense for Laurent Garnier to drop one of his finest productions to date on the label. Although the legendary Frenchman has kept busy producing movie soundtracks (‘Paris Est A Nous’) and remixes in recent years, this is his first full release since 2017. He’s joined in the studio by Chambray, a Berlin-based producer known for releasing on Figure, Unknown To The Unknown and Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic.

Opening with sporadic battle cries, stabbing claps and powerful bass sequences before rapturous piano melodies come into effect – ‘Feelin’ Good’ is undoubtedly one of this year’s biggest tracks. On the flip, Radio Slave assembles two contrasting remixes that do just as much damage: the first is an atmospheric
number that marches forward using precision kicks, rattling percussion and rising pads, whilst the ‘Revenge Mix’ cranks things up a notch with its crunchy breaks before introducing the original’s blissful keys.
