My Submission for August 2025 OSC. 7 Tracks, powered by FLStudio and Quilcomm's Trout. Maximus for loudness.

Based on various incarnations of the Trautonium - a Synth Design originating in the 1930's. I chose Trout because I've wanted to try my hand as something very old and very strange with the plugin. And oh my - it's strange.

Cover is AI generated this time - Colors and some things fixed/added afterwards. My blender skills aren't THAT good. 

Early synths defined some of the sounds and vibes that powered Science Fiction, so I went with something that evoked a dangerous and strange job in space. Enjoy!

Lyrics based on a poem by my friend Ratt Mice (see bottom).

DAW: Reaper

Vocals 1: Me.  Pitch Shifted up an octave, and 5 semitones
Vocals 2: Me. Bitcrushed, chorus.
Drums: MT Power Drumkit 2.  Reverb>Flanger>Overdrive (in that order)
Bass: Acoustic 5 string bass (low B string) played through Korg AX1500G pedal (Distortion, Amp Sim & Chorus).
Guitar (L&R): Ibanez Flying V.  Through AX1500G.  Much cleaner than I planned,  I didn't want to hide the dirty bass.  just a bit of OD.
Mandolin: Overdrive, loads of stereo chorus.
Everything except the bass and kick - sent to a ring modulator - with the send amount and frequency automated.  One of the few times I've found a ring modulator useful.  I felt I needed to try a difficult effect - in addition to the ones I felt comfortable with.

Created for the Out of One Synth Challenge - November-ish '25... The remit here was to produce something mostly effects driven so here we have  some simple patches, mostly for Rippler, with rather more processing applied than you might get in the average OSC.

first time I've come even close to succeeding in making something resembling botanica, although challenging myself not to use pianos or other sampled instruments makes that quite a bit harder.
