Label founder Holly Lester pools together a selection of her favourite artists from across the globe to form the first volume in the Duality Trax Visions compilation series.

100% of compilation profits will be donated to Doctors Without Borders, who provide medical care to casualties of war in Gaza, Syria, Yemen and much more. The organisation has also worked tirelessly to provide Covid-19 related aid to countries hit the hardest throughout the pandemic and are currently lobbying for a global waiver of patents on COVID-19 technologies.

Bouncing from the U.S to Europe, the VA travels through a multitude of moods and genres across seven tracks - including acid tinged electro from New York, breaks infused garage from Chicago, rave-fuelled house music from Belgium and a pulsating trance-inspired club track from Estonia.

The third instalment of Braiden’s Off Out label arrives via Chunyin, a new dancefloor orientated project by Hong Kong born, Sydney based artist, singer and producer Rainbow Chan. In her own words:

"If I had to explain the birth of Chunyin, it was a response to wanting to make more instrumental, gender-neutral tracks that didn't have my face or emotions at the forefront. I wanted to make tracks via a disinterested and icy approach, and transfer the energy I would normally pour into emotional catharsis to something that was bodily, visceral and brutal. With a focus on frenetic, jacking rhythms and choppy samples, I wanted to make dance music that was quite rudimentary. I feel like these tracks are still personal; they reflect themes or sounds that are my personal interests, but without the confines of lyrics or words (which is something fairly new to me given my background as predominately a songwriter.)"

The lead track of this release, "Fei", was the genesis of this project, created as she started to explore the world of murky dancefloor music. The track delivers a raw, punky attitude with a nod to minimal wave, littered with warped organic sounds and samples of Hong Kong new wave cinema.

Following this is "Emporium", a relentless jacking dancefloor number, syncopated groove laden drums married with airy atmospherics. "Shi" closes this EP with a unique and brooding techno inspired track that rolls yet feels as though it's perpetually falling apart at the seams.

Truancy Volume 149 comes courtesy of Sydney-based chunyin, ahead of her forthcoming 'Code Switch' EP on Off Out. Many will know chunyin from her pop project Rainbow Chan, a local favourite who has been working in the scene for many years. chunyin, however, is the grit under Rainbow Chan's poppy sheen, the foggy night to its sparkling day. Focusing wholly on the dance floor, chunyin pulls and stretches wonky techno into something always compelling and affecting. Playful earlier tracks, like Softcall 101 (below) and Ori, step in straight from the uncanny valley, while the forthcoming EP takes on a punishing percussive edge where fragments of Chinese cinema and language drift over jacking kicks and swarming snares.

Truancy Volume 149: chunyin

Chopped up vocals and a brooding synth bass line, originally wrote this on an old Yamaha Clavinova.
