A great dance party is a thing of beauty, but a good soundtrack for the comedown can be just as vital. After nearly a decade on the trippy dancefloor of Soundpool, guitarist/drummer/bassist/producer John Cep and singer/bassist Kim Field set off from that New York five-piece to take respite in the warm and woozy sounds of a new shoegaze-infused project, The Stargazer Lilies. And with their debut album, We Are the Dreamers,they're letting their days of disco beats slip away into memory with style.

Linking up with Tobacco of Black Moth Super Rainbow and live drummers EJ DeCoske and Johnny Lancia, they've teased influences like the French pop of Air and the shoegaze of Lush and Slowdive out to create a record of dripping dream pop. Here, they've pared down their sound to Kim's airy vocals, reverb-washed drums and a fuzzy, swelling ether of effects-laden guitar and bass. The resulting punch-drunk collection, from the gentle melody of "Del Rey Mar" to the sluggish and nearly indecipherable drone of "Light of Day," is coated in the disquieting patina that Tobacco brings to BMSR, though in this case the mood he creates is more melancholy than sinister.

And isn't that just how it feels, that limbo between a real good party and the morning after — sickly sweet, a little muzzy and ready, before too long, to do it all again.

Bloom Offering is the synth-wave / blighted electronic project of Seattle’s Nicole Carr. Having released a handful of well-received cassettes through Clan Destine, Aught Void, and Sinneslöschen, Bloom Offering presents her debut LP Episodes through The Helen Scarsdale Agency. 

In her development as an artist and technician, Carr has steadily honed her abilities in sculpting sharply cold electronics and declarative vocals set upon propulsive spines of whipcrack snares and throttled kick drums. Episodes strikes us as the refinement and culmination of those motifs into a compulsive communion with bleak noise, dark-eyed melody, controlled rhythm, cathartic release and emotional drainage. “Venus Shrugged” maintains a stately almost haughty sequence of synth stabs, evoking the sexual politics of the male gaze and any woman who choses to look for herself. In the constant headlines of men behaving badly, Bloom Offering’s curse remains necessary.

The Stargazer Lilies slow motion bathing through space music is like sun glistening on the water in sound, ambient rock for daydreamers to bob their heads to. The Northeastern Pennsylvania based trio of guitarist/bassist/drummer/producer, John Cep, singer/bassist, Kim Field, and live drummers EJ DeCoske and Johnny Lancia, bring back the raw rock primal gaze, no bullshit sunshine haze.

The gazey dance floor where Soundpool, John & Kim’s previous band, dwelled lies behind them, while The Stargazer Lilies cosmic ambient arena lies ahead. Soundpool released three full-lengths in the last half decade, two on Aloft & Quince, and one on Killer Pimp. They shared the stage and in some cases toured with the likes of: Chapterhouse, Ulrich Schnauss, A Place to Bury Strangers, Asobi Seksu, School of Seven Bells, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Tobacco and Robin Guthrie to name a few.

The Stargazer Lilies streamline and minimize Soundpool down to just the bare essentials, ridding themselves of the superfluous & getting down to the essence of what The Stargazer Lilies are: ~butterfly wings, slowly beating guitars enveloping the listener, ethereal breathy female vocals floating on a melody, rocked out bossa nova beats and bad ass bass throwing down the rhythm.

This new direction, like minimalism, gains strength by taking away and paring the instrumentation down to create vast vistas of sound.

Their debut album, We are the Dreamers, will be out Oct 22nd on Graveface Records. Tobacco of Black Moth Super Rainbow curated the release.
