A staple of the late 90s Baltimore music scene, we go into the vault for this week's Homegrown Headliner...Rebel Amish Radio!!  A tight band lead by fearless vocals helped this group reach the highest level of artistry. We’ve got a local favorite with tonight’s Homegrown Headliner…Joey Harkum!!  An incredibly talented songwriter, he’s been holding it down for many years as one of the area’s hardest working artists.  "Through deep, poignant lyrics which tell stories of happiness, love, loss and sadness, Joey Harkum has been traveling and playing his heartfelt songs for over a decade."

It's our annual Earth Day Weekend Celebration on this Saturday's Young at Heart, with lots of Earth-centric songs. Lisa Mathews will also be chatting with Deborah "Spice" Kleinman, a Baltimore-based musician and Teaching Artist who is also Chair of the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the Sierra Club of Maryland. Spice will be talking about her work with the Sierra Club and share ideas for listeners to get involved in taking care of our little part of the planet.

Hey Hey! Another week, another Homegrown Headliner…The Original Automatic Slim!!  He’s a staple of the Baltimore blues scene and if you hear him play then there is no question why.  Gracing our local stages and many around the country for the better part of thirty years, if you don't already know Slim when you see him, he'll be the sharp-dressed guy with the guitar.

Break it down one time with this week’s Homegrown Headliner…Crush Funk Brass!!  They’ve got D.C. Go-Go vibes coming from a New Orleans second line tradition and it is the epitome of hype.  Not only are they great musicians, but great people, as they frequently play for causes around the community.

We got soul!  To be more specific, we’ve got this week’s Homegrown Headliner…Honest Lee Soul out of Annapolis, MD!!  They bring the heat with a mix of funk, soul, hip hop, and blues that will blow you away.  Not only that, but they can bring it as a two-piece, three-piece, all the way up to a full band with horns and keys.

After over five years of creating a show full of “kid-friendly music for everyone,” I will be moving on to explore new things to create and adventures to have. But you’ll still be able to listen to past episodes of Young at Heart on the Young at Heart Radio SoundCloud, and hear Talking Tunes, Artist SongBites and Artist Interviews on www.youngatheartradio.org.

I will never forget that first day at WTMD when my band Milkshake was invited by Sam Sessa to perform a concert for families on a Saturday morning. That was the start of what would become the very successful Saturday Morning Tunes family-friendly live music series. It also inspired an idea I had for a radio show for families called Young at Heart.

In honor of this last show, I’ve gathered music from my favorite kid-friendly artists, the very first Talking Tunes from Brian Simms and Tom Moon, a new Artist SongBite, and a Notes from the Playground. It was impossible to play all the artists I’ve come to love and share with you over the years, so I went to the Interviews page of Young at Heart on WTMD.org and picked songs from artists I’ve chatted with over the years.
