Eponymous first EP from the renowned eclectic producer drops March 9th

Revered for his mesmerising DJ sets and uniquely memorable productions, electronic artist Matthias Meyer expands his range further, launching his new imprint Strangely Enough.

The label will be a platform for his own diverse sound explorations, while releasing special collaborations with some of his favourite producers – names to be announced soon.

‘The label allows me to explore different realms of production with added freedom,’ Matthias says. ‘In my DJ sets, you find lots of different elements, from deep house to breakbeat, hip hop to trance. I want to include these aspects in my productions going forward. Unique music but still deep, with lots of energy.’

Strangely Enough’s eponymous debut release is the epitome of Matthias’ vision, showcasing his varied musical palette.

The title track combines a dark vibrant groove with haunting vocal fragments. A powerful weapon in expert hands, this cut sits in that indefinable space between the dance floor and the after party, heralding those legendary moments in Matthias’ long afterhours sets at his Watergate residency or in far flung lands from the Sahara desert to Bahrain. Catchy from the off, ‘Fantazy’ continues the theme of refusing to commit to just one style, going from breaks to driving house, with an almost defiant emotive breakdown.

‘Strangely Enough’ drops on March 9th on vinyl and digital.

He’s an artist with a unique ability to capture diverse soundscapes, taking listeners from dark and ethereal to uplifting and groovy in effortless style. It’s a blend of influences and genres that is impossible to summarize in short form projects. Therefore, we are ecstatic to announce the pinnacle of O’Donovans tie to XYZ in the form of his upcoming Still Waters LP.

In recent years, O’Donovan has shifted toward more melodic and euphoric styles of production, as is particularly evident with his recent presentations of XYZ. Deeper tones and melody-oriented arrangements command the bulk of Still Waters, creating a flow throughout the album that never tires. Early in the album, Run Deep and Sakura melt listeners with pristine quality, setting the vibe for the LP. The Aftermath bring electro elements into the fold, while Sentient City rest upon soaring classical strings.

Hotly tipped newcomer Yulia Niko joins the Watergate collective, delivering an exciting label debut to mark the occasion.

The Russian-born, Berlin-based artist has piqued the ears of heads with quality releases on Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical and her own TochnoTechno imprint. She steps up for Watergate Records with an inspiring maiden EP, augmented by remixes from YokoO and Francesco Mami.

‘Manifesto’ is the intriguing opener, as intergalactic synths rub shoulders with a chugging groove for an ultra-cool finish. ‘Passion’ is heavy on vibes, pairing an enchanting vocal with a colourful bed of percussion. YokoO contributes a subterranean ‘Defragmentation’ remix of ‘Manifesto’ on the minimal tip, before adding some warmth to the palette teaming up with Francesco Mami for a ‘Vegas Mix’ primed for the afterhours with its deep grooves and shuffling beats. ‘Hurts So Slow’ reinforces Niko’s versatility, imbuing a dusty house vibe primed for late night sessions.

As we know this label is the reflection of the cooperation between the advanced world of the Viracochas, beings from other planets and the archaic world of the Nazcas, deeply attached to art and nature.
