An old friend returns to Pets. Three years after his ‘Polyphonic’ EP, Catz ‘n Dogz bring the legend that is Mathias Kaden back on the label and the results speak for themselves…
Following his recent barnstormers on Avotre and Rekids, both ‘Square’ and ‘Distant Horizon’ deliver in that unhurried, cosmic journey-like way Kaden has made his signature over the years: gentle layering, subtle moment, palpable atmospheres but the drive and underbelly of a bulldozer. 
‘Square’ kicks off the show with an eight-minute adventure into deep, warm undulating acid. Heavy subs, fluid drums and a persistent spoken vocal texture, this one wraps you up like a cloak. ‘Distant Horizon’, meanwhile, whips that cloak off so quickly it will send you spinning deeper and deeper into the celestial rabbit hole. A 10-minute Mathias epic, it warms up with a progressive rolling feel for a good few minutes before we’re suddenly derailed into a trippy, hazy brew of weird bass bubbles and some rather outlandish spoken word. Poetry in high grade technoid motion. 
And the motion doesn’t stop there… Ever ones to get involved, Catz ‘n Dogz get their paws on ‘Distant Horizon’ and give it their own gritty, grainy, trippy twist. Two parts tribal, one part bass, all parts peak time, this doesn’t just stare out at the horizon but flies you right over it. 
Two beautiful originals, one killer remix. Be there or be ‘Square’…

The world-renowned Crosstown Rebels add the third instalment to their annual Spirits compilation, an album which has become established for delivering some of the biggest hits that have been heard in Damian Lazarus’ sets over the past year, from some of the most esteemed artists in electronic music. Let your mind become absorbed in this collection of diverse and exciting tracks.

The man himself Damian Lazarus opens the release, setting the tone with the haunting hypnosis of Ergot which contains snippets of an ancient Chilean revolution song, relevant to the current political climate. Next up Guti & Fosky collaborate once again in fine style to produce a smoky, late-night atmosphere, with the moody bassline and expertly crafted beat of Da Drumz. Side B and legendary producer Martin Buttrich combines driving tripped out rhythms with warm surging pads, creating a great musical tonic during Slow Down. Denney & James Dexter then deliver a peak time monster in the form of Transcend.

Next up Harry Romero adds a touch of romance on It’s You with an unravelling rhythm of heartfelt synth. Dennis Cruz’s Mother Earth follows up with striking vocals playing off one another with soaring brass and strings. More DJ ammunition is provided by Piem on Freak Out where a familiar looped sample is manipulated to ignite dance floor euphoria. Finally the bounce of Adonis Rivera’s XX Acid will have you hooked from the outset, as you would expect from the title, razor-sharp acid awakens every sense in this heady piece. Another great Spirits compilation to add to the esteemed series.

Adding another debutant to the label, Proton Music welcomes Anton Make and a quintet of Teflon-coated tracks in "Bulletproof".

Originally from the historic and beautiful city of St Petersburg on the Baltic coast, Anton Make has carved out a sizeable reputation from his home in Kazan on the banks of the Volga. Fêted by Mixmag Russia as "one of the most worthy Russian adherents of the progressive sound", Anton has continued to dine at underground dance music's top table with a string of productions that first saw a commercial release on Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's Mistique Music imprint in June 2012. Some eight years later and with a double century of credits to his name, Anton Make has seen his music allied to a host of high-profile labels that include Mango Alley, JOOF Recordings and Cid Inc.'s Replug. Indeed, 2018's "Naja Nova" with Shamil OM and January 2019's "Divo" has seen Anton continue to develop an impressive relationship with the Finnish legend's label. Finding his way on to Particles in February 2019 with the twin-track "Aquamarine" EP after a 2017 remix of Robin Thurston, Anton Make now makes his debut on Proton's flagship imprint with the five-track "Bulletproof".

The title track is a bristling rhythmic offering that glistens with rock-solid percussive groove and hypnotic woodblock phrasing. A filtered pad provides intrigue as a series of motifs evolve atop a laid-back bass groove. Rich delays and reverbs add texture and depth as an emotive breakdown melody opens up and extends into the third movement. "Claudio" immediately impresses with a slightly more up-tempo feel as an off-beat hi-hat pattern adds subtle urgency. A fast-paced melodic sequence provides intrigue with its subtle variations while pads and white-noise effect pan hits cross the left-right spectrum. The result is an intelligent dancefloor track.

A chugging cadence belies the cleverly programmed chords that ripple out in waves across "Melbourne". Subtly embracing an array of textured risers and effects, a heavily processed lead-line in the mid-point breakdown hints at a vocal phrase underneath before bass, rhythm and melody combine once more in the second half to impressive effect. Immediately grabbing listener attention with its strong bassline sequence, a body-shaking percussive line combines to ensure "My Little Princess" turns heads. Sumptuous synths and pads combine in multi-faceted layers before a glorious grooved arpeggio adds a club-friendly element to the second half.

A satisfying "Denouement" sees another trademark bassline groove, stratified layers of sound and rich sonic palette envelop along with glittering chords and vibrato lead-line. A bold arpeggio waxes and wanes in mesmerising fashion as the track reaches a breakdown crescendo of white-noise power before extending into the third movement with Vangelis inspired synth line.

Five powerful tracks find Anton Make making a "Bulletproof" debut on Proton Music.

Anton MAKe - Melbourne (Original Mix)

The 201th release on Madloch's 3rd Avenue imprint welcomes JFR & Julian Rodriguez back to the label with their "To The Glory EP". Balad, Monojoke & Travis Jesse got invited to make a remix of this beautiful original.

Balad made his debut on Sound Avenue last year together on an EP with Bigasti and recently had releases on labels such as Steyoyoke, Where The Heart Is, BeatFreak & Balance Music.

Monojoke is no stranger to the label. He's a regular since the start in 2013 and released music on labels like Soundteller Records, Or Two Strangers, Springtube, and many others.

Travis Jesse makes his remix debut. He made his first appearance on the label last year on the "We Are The Future" compilation.

Tash's Movement Recordings continues a strong summer season by welcoming Alex O'Rion to the label for his debut EP.  As one of the Netherlands most highly regarded and sought-after artists, the Nijkerk resident has found favour amongst progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J, while finding a home on Sudbeat Music, Hope Recordings and Cid inc's Replug Records. Now fresh off a collaborative EP with Antrim for Roger Martinez's Higher States, Alex makes his Movement Recordings debut with 'Blue'. 

Sitting firmly amongst progressive music's elite, Alex continues this wave of momentum with three more memorable pieces, beginning with 'Stripped'. Fuelled by rhythm and groove; it's well sculpted foundation, driving percussion and unpredictable tonality form the backbone of this thrilling journey. Wispy effects and emerging atmospheres smoothly segue into the main break, shifting the narrative further into esoteric territory. Sitting comfortably in an ethereal yet thought provoking space, the lead motif rises amidst a rush of drums as the beats drop for a heady finale.

The second selection 'Fiend' follows suit with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship. Once again, a darker undertone runs through the piece, while a menacing low end, growling synths and steam-like sweeps create a foreboding air. An effervescent arp begins to bubble as the first act evolves, trailing into the break and elevating tension, before a rush of drums sparks a powerful drop.

Rounding out the release in style is the title selection 'Blue' which finds Alex showcasing his remarkable combination of rhythm and groove once again. Spacious and energetic, it's a creation built around rolling bass tones and haunting atmospheres. Harmonic phrases and otherworldly effects converge as the first act unfolds, while ghostly overlays shift energy into the break. Surreal and tense in equal measure, timely modulation adds drama across the one-minute interlude, ultimately reaching a swirling crescendo as the beats fade to prominence, perfectly setting up a striking final movement. A powerful creation from Alex, capping off an inspired Movement Recordings debut for the rapidly rising Dutch artist.

Looking towards the peak summer season, we are thrilled to jumpstart July with the return of Jim Rider to XYZ. The Brit is a seasoned veteran of the industry, and has been a key figure in London’s thriving scene throughout the years as both a producer and promoter.

After an extended break from the studio, Jim has revived his artistic drive in incredible fashion. Over the last six months alone, he’s had an EP on Lee Burridge’s surging Tale & Tone, a pair of productions on our Blanche VA, the launch of his own label, and a sumptuous EP on the famed Kindisch . Rider has a firm grasp on the attention of the dance community’s most influential tastemakers, as he continues to unveil a distinct studio prowess.

Equals is a nod towards Rider’s ability to craft emotive deep, melodic numbers. Purveying more sober tones with soothing strings, a rhythmic drumline keeps the track grooving. Progressive builds maintain a clubby feel to the EP’s closer, and showcase the well rounded nature of Jim’s production style.
