Argentina’s Lucefora & the UK’s Steve Kelley have each made significant individual strides over the years with releases on the likes of All Day I Dream and Souksonic under their respective belts. However, their joint material is capturing the ears of late, launching their partnership with the sumptuous Silk on our Tales of Romance series earlier this year. As they continue to dive deeper into the collaborative territories, we are thrilled to unveil their first EP together - Bodhiss.

The title track opens the show, diving deep into the realm of melodies and organica throughout the early moments. Percussive rhythms and searching synth work set the stage, as piano chords cut through the mold. The arrangement consistently builds in its offering, elevating energy as the track progresses to create sumptuous dancefloor momentum. A perfectly balanced groover that feels right at home.

'An artist with a long and esteemed career within the underground dance industry, Chris Cargo is one of electronic music’s great innovators. Always at the bleeding edge of the progressive and deep house scene, he returns to his If You Wait imprint with a full-length album of ground-breaking breadth and diversity that showcases true “Resistance”.

A seasoned DJ and producer from Belfast, Cargo has seen his music reach far beyond the boundaries of his Northern Ireland home that have seen him enrapture crowds across all corners of the globe since the 1990s. From Shanghai and Siberia to Malaysia and Mexico for the likes of Smirnoff, Renaissance and Tennent’s Lager, Cargo has thrilled with a series of meticulously crafted and spellbinding sets. A celebrated production career has run contemporaneously with Cargo seeing his music signed to a plethora of blue-chip imprints that include John 00 Fleming’s JOOF, Paul Thomas’ UV and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, as well as the likes of Mango Alley, Stellar Fountain and Flow Vinyl. Supported by DJs across the world, particular attention has been paid by the dance industry’s glitterati that features John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and Laurent Garnier, to name but an elite few.

Using his own imprint as a vehicle for his music and a wealth of other high-profile artists, Chris Cargo now debuts his “Resistance” album on If You Wait. The multi-layered sonic landscape of “Constellations” opens proceedings with its subtle vocal phrasing, suspenseful chord progressions and twinkling motif. “From Within” continues the textured patterns before a rolling breakbeat groove adds a heavyweight anchor. Building to a rousing crescendo, stereo-panned pads open up in the second half. The deep house vibe of “Kundalini” impresses with its powerful bassline and delicate percussive roll adding weight aplenty, before the light, house vibe of “Cried to Dream” impresses with reverb-laden piano chords and subtly incongruous pad backdrop.

A delicate percussive vibe returns courtesy of “Corrado” as it rolls hypnotically across its 8-minute timeframe accompanied by a glorious jazz piano sequence and delay-infused effects, while “Home”, featuring the loquacious vocal harmonies of Sarah Whittaker Gilbey, is a delight to behold with its tender phrasing and air of melancholy. “Synergy” jars the listener back to the here and now with a deep bassline groove and ticking hi hat rhythm before “Aurora” smacks of club-friendly rhythms and powerful melodies. Straight out of the modern progressive house handbook, elegantly crafted melodies filter into range as muted arpeggios dance in tandem.

“Circadian” continues the driving club atmosphere that has come to define the Chris Cargo sound with its chest-thumping kick and powerful bass notes, while ethereal melodies easily drift across the mid-range to create a spine-tingling moment of magic. A stripped back breakbeat pattern heralds “Some Kind of Electric” as a sustained arpeggio and syncopated melody play off each other. Counterpoint melody is provided courtesy of sumptuous pads as an 80s bass pattern supplies a nostalgic feel. Ending as it began, the smooth textures of “Space Between” provide a pause for reflection as emotive chords soar into the distance with gravitas and strength, creating the perfect end to an outstanding body of work.'

Ukrainian artist Somelee steps up to Kindisch with a fantastically cultured pair of new tracks. 

Somelee hails from Kharkiv in Ukraine, a city now destroyed by war which has left him searching for a new home. Despite this, he remains a core part of the new school of melodic house and techno producers. He has released on that scene's most pivotal labels such as All Day I Dream, Sol Selectas and now Kindisch. Whether making melancholic moods or more groove-based cuts, he does so with a real sense of atmosphere. 

His opener 'Aries' is a sublime six-minute journey into supple deep house rhythms They are gently peppered with tumbling toms and melodies that speak of yearning and loss. They are carefully draped over the drums and make a lasting impact, while more nimble keys have an Eastern feel and bring a sense of hope next to the delicate and whispered female vocals. 

'Solar Symphony' is a collaboration with Talemates that is a little heavier and more driving, but still deliciously deep and with a gorgeous female vocal. Here the taught drums bump beneath languid chords and loose shakers. Playful melodies dance up top next to string sounds and a rasping bassline adds further weight to this stylish and subtle party starter. 

This is a musical and moving pair of life-enriching house tunes.

DJ Balaton continues to carve out his part in the puzzle with a fresh 4-tracker on LQL <3. With a nostalgic nod to Frankfurt, the producer shows that it doesn’t take much, just the right touch, to install a badass groove. Spacious arrangements and carefully placed synths turn the EP into an echo of a different time in the club.

The title track “Back To The Mood” orbits around that secret open-air energy - one of those full-circle cuts for the crew. You are missing the water, baby is all there is to say about “Flow Key”, rolling away at 127, disguised but with energy. “Reso 02” is the track we all wanted to finish but never did, grooving along with restrained intensity, shaping the EP into something personal and unique. Closing off, “Push Yourself” is Geoff White meets Herbert in a club-ready outfit.
