'A talented and prolific artist, Nōpi returns to Meanwhile with a second original EP in the shape of the 3-track masterpiece, “Stri;la”.

A rising Ukrainian star in the underground dance firmament, Nōpi has featured in the upper echelons of the Progressive and Organic House charts with a plethora of tracks signed to finest modern imprints. Replug, When We Dip XYZ and Anjunadeep have all played host to his distinctive and mellifluous tones, while Meanwhile also saw Nōpi release a twin-track offering of the highest order in January 2021 with his “Spoon Light” EP.

The “Stri;la” title track immediately excites with its powerful rhythmic backdrop and driving beat. A running bassline soon adds to the overall urgency while trademark atmospheric keys float over the mid-range in unhurried fashion. The juxtaposition between free-flowing melodies and rapid-fire percussion creates a delicious tension, before a glorious breakdown displays a wealth of textures, effects and atmospheres. Building into a rousing crescendo, the final movement explodes into life with a cascading array of harmonies and dynamic dancefloor prowess.

Continuing the powerful rhythmic force, “Stay” combines chest-thumping kick and ticking percussive groove, while underwater effects and mesmerising looped motif create a filtered sequence that resonates with tape delay and panned ambient effects. Bearing all the hallmarks of The Future Sound of London during their “Dead Cities” era, Nōpi has successfully captured an iconic sound while simultaneously advancing it into the modern progressive zeitgeist with a plethora of attendant organic house influences and multi-faceted aural tapestry. The resultant piece is as distinctive as it is ingenious and sonically rewarding, both in club and solo listener environments.

The final track sees the deeper vibe of “My Prophet World” take centre stage. Playing host to a filtered bassline cadence and pulsating white-noise pads infused with delays, an evocative melody gradually emerges to sit perfectly atop the classy dancefloor backdrop. Over its 8-minute voyage an interwoven tapestry of pitched and delayed motifs fold over each other in coruscating patterns. Full of dancefloor know-how and immaculate production technique, the track waxes and wanes with typical ease, hitting its mark at the 5-minute point where a magical pause provides the perfect vehicle for Nōpi’s delightful melodic groove to take centre stage once more.

Able to paint a unique sonic picture with a canvas full of iridescent colour and vivid texture, Nōpi hits the heights once more with his “Stri;la” triptych.'

Hicky & Kalo are back on their own label Plaisirs Sonores Records with a brand new two-track EP as well as a brand new artwork design for their imprint.

The title track 'Arch Of Light' is a massive track with driving drums, a rolling bassline, an emotive pad melody and a great arpeggiator. The Canadian duo tries to open the progressive house field by blending some melodic techno and electro elements into the track like the use of vocoder vocals and epic synth stabs.

The second offering 'Time We Spent Together' is an ode to remembering "the time you spent with someone that no long is part of your live". It was made during sad time for the duo and you can feel the melancholia and sadness in the melody.

All in all, it's a beautiful EP for the upcoming duo.

'The Letters Of EP, from Estonian father-son duo about : river, features three original cuts from the pair, each unique but tied together by about : river’s ability to compose surging synth melodies and club-ready progressive beats.

Opening the project up is L, the first of the letters referred to in the title. L provides over seven minutes of beautiful chord movement and driving bassline, setting the tone immediately. The feeling is nostalgic, melancholy, and straight from the heart.

O, as the second track is titled, slows things down to a stroll, before introducing stunning strings and a meandering synth line that seems to playfully float in and out of the listener’s consciousness. 

On the final cut, V, the duo serve up a slice of bouncy dance music complete with a rubbery bassline and keyboard stabs that is part-disco, part-house. The upbeat song is crying out for the dancefloor, and will bring some heat to clubs around the world over the colder months.

We have enlisted B.A.X. and VieL on remix duties, and they both offer their takes on the opening track L. First up is B.A.X., who spends the first two minutes of their interpretation building to an irresistible crescendo before dropping in to the beat. 

The remainder of the track revels in about : river’s gorgeous instrumentation and melody writing, delivering a memorable cut of progressive beauty.

VieL, meanwhile, offers up a take that is more heavy on percussion, but retains many of the original’s best melodic qualities to create something quite unique. '
