As winter takes its last breath in Montreal, we revisit the latest Quebecois artist to grace XYZ - Monarke. The Edge of Reality EP launched earlier this year to a hearty reception, and we follow it up with a set of remixes brimming with innovative energy.

Jessica Zese’s vocal performance on Otherside forms the backbone of the project, offering the centerpiece that sews the thread between these four tracks. Her balance of emotive power and soft prose make for memorable dancefloor moments and crucial character for the remixing artists. 

Nōpi is no stranger to the XYZ faithful, as he has proven to be a pillar of the label’s output over the last several years. The Ukranian adds his distinct percussive touch, offering a dubby remix with soaring strings and warm grooves, easing us to the close in true style.

Continuing to add exciting new talent to their roster, Clubsonica Records welcomes Greg Ochman to the label for his debut EP. Although a relative newcomer, Greg's deeply rooted passion for creating emotionally driven electronic music has already made its mark. With an elusive yet emotive take on organic house, the Polish artist made his debut on Sebastian Leger's Lost Miracle imprint in January of this year. Well received by both his fans and contemporaries, it not only enjoyed a lengthy stay in Beatport's Organic House chart, but set the course for what promises to be a breakout year. Now following his 'Parallel Time' collection for Switzerland's Radiant, Greg makes his Clubsonica debut with a three-track showcase entitled 'Mistlove'.

Getting the EP underway with the title selection, Greg marries rolling grooves with playful melodic concepts. Pronounced and warm, an enticing selection of free form motifs elevates mood through shimmering arrays and effervescent artefacts. Nostalgic chord changes flow through the mountainous groove, perfectly setting up a tranquil break where timely modulation advances the narrative onwards to a tasteful apex. It's youthful spirit and carnival-like vibe prove to be infectious across nine magical minutes and ultimately set the course for the remainder of the release.

Continuing with a mosaic of sounds and infinite emotional spectrums is 'Paper Moon'. From warm and mystical beginnings, the piece pulsates with kaleidoscopic melodies and spirited wails blanketing driving percussion and buzzing effects. Soulful strings highlight a poignant centrepiece, perfectly playing off childlike vocal choirs, before getting washed away as the groove resets for a spirited finale.

Rounding out the release is the tastefully poignant 'Someone Always Around'. Immersive and captivating throughout, it's filled with electrifying energy and big room sounds designed for maximum emotional impact. This piece strikes the perfect balance between trance inspired melodies, voluptuous bass and buoyant rhythms, to create a potent piece of music for the dance floor. It caps off a hugely successful Clubsonica debut from Greg, who continues to stake his claim as one of the organic house scene's fastest rising stars, thus further solidifying Clubsonica's place in this burgeoning genre.

'From the banks of the Volga, “Arepo” rises from a fortified citadel as Anton MAKe forges another powerful construct from the Sator Square. A rhythmic cadence rolls effortlessly forward as a bassline sits below in symmetrical beauty. Melodic splendour ripples concurrently in hypnotic parallel and a heavy beat anchors the symphony of sound. A returning Dutch master orchestrates a new masterpiece redolent in aural textures and opulent sonic palette. Glistening patterns swirl and coalesce around Roger Martinez’s vivid synth lines, pitching and bending against a harmonious chord sequence in delicate layers of tonality.

Along Lake Ontario’s north western shoreline, a new edifice rises from Dowden’s distinctive sonic architecture. Muted tones provide a mirror image of “Arepo”; a bouncing bassline creates easy familiarity while a new groove creates the framework for new artistry to flourish. A South American star creates an arpeggiated backdrop with palindromic majesty where John Cosani reinvents “Arepo”. Water droplets of sound filter through the sonic spectrum alongside familiar bass patterns and a swathe of original textures blend in vivid sonic colours.'

An artist consistently at the cutting edge of the underground dance scene, Juan Deminicis returns to Proton Music with another outstanding twin-track offering courtesy of his "Water / Rebellion" EP.

From the bustling metropolis that is Buenos Aries, Juan Deminicis has become one of dance music's most celebrated and respected names. Inspired by the likes of Sasha, Digweed, Warren and fellow countryman, Hernan Cattaneo, Deminicis has since risen to dine alongside such legends at electronic music's top table. Regularly hitting the heights with a sparkling array of original and remix production material, the Argentinean has seen his work signed to such leading imprints as Guy J's Lost & Found, Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas and Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music.

A regular on Proton Music since 2012's "Downshifting" debut with Pablo Acenso, a trio of original EPs for Proton Music in the shape of 2013's "Behind the Sun", 2018's "Life on the Moon" and 2020's "Synchronicity", have all contributed to Juan Deminicis' ever-growing reputation within an ever-changing industry.

Now returning to the label with his fourth original offering, "Water", featuring the vocal talents of Mila Belini, is a velvety smooth affair that envelops the listener with hypnotic melodic percussion and sumptuous pads. Wrapped within a crisp rhythmic shell, Mila's ethereal vocal phrases meander delicately across the 7-minute piece while a beautiful piano sequence is revealed at the mid-point breakdown and into the third movement. The resultant combination of rhythm, melody and vocals is the perfect illustration of Deminicis' skill, craft and technique.

"Rebellion" continues the smooth elegance of its partner track as ticking percussive hats and powerful beat merge with subterranean bassline groove. Having established the perfect club-friendly foundations, textured pads gently pulsate in time while a glorious array of counterpoint melodic phrases tumble over each other to create a rich sonic tapestry. The golden threads woven into the aural fabric create a vibrant and shimmering picture that is certain to find favour among the world's finest DJs.

Another pair of scintillating tracks find Juan Deminicis once again firmly in the spotlight with his "Water / Rebellion" EP.

Clubsonica Records opens the fall season by welcoming Golan Zocher back to the label for a new single. The Colombian born, Israel based artist makes progressive music that breaks boundaries, moves feet and twists minds. Since making his label debut in 2017, Golan has found a comfortable home on Clubsonica, releasing two remixes and a single across two calendar years. Also finding a home on Beatfreak, Or Two Strangers and Proton Music, Golan now lands back on Clubsonica with a new single entitled Ready to Fly', alongside remixes from Navar and Stereo Underground.

Beginning with the original mix, it is Golan's masterstroke to collaborate and introduce the sublime vocals of Rona. Hailing from Israel and an artist of profound talent, she injects the piece with authentic soul and emotion, as Golan's warm grooves and impassioned musicality provide the perfect dance floor vehicle. Rona's breathy wails come in waves, effortlessly drifting through a forest of detailed percussion and tranquil tonal themes, before reaching a serene and spiritually uplifting apex across the second of two breaks and a powerful finale.

Making his label debut and providing the first interpretation of Ready to Fly' is Navar. As one of the underground's most creative talents the Dutch artist has shaped a sound all his own. His emotive musicality and organic design have led to signings on Guy J's Lost and Found Records, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren's Hope Recordings and Cid Inc's Replug Records. Now fresh off his Land of Caya' EP for Belgium's EDGE, Navar makes his Clubsonica debut with an inspired rendition of Ready to Fly'. Spanning ten magical minutes, Navar's consciousness-expanding conversion of musical ideas resonates on a profound level, as he effortlessly melds rugged dance floor minded grooves with fiery percussion and otherworldly effects. Reprocessed for aural enlightenment, Rona's vocals drift across the rumbling framework, weaving their way through an unpredictable array of atmospheric swells and melodic fragments before an expansive break spearheads an enlightening apex and intergalactic finale.

The release concludes with Stereo Underground also making his label debut and providing the final interpretation of Ready to Fly'. Famed for releases on Balance Music, Beat Boutique, Lost and Found, Sudbeat and UV, the Israeli artist sits firmly in progressive music's elite class of producers. Also, a favourite of the genre's premiere tastemakers, Stereo Underground has a long list of supporters, including Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J and John OO Fleming. Now in a year that has seen the Tel Aviv resident release just one remix he makes his Clubsonica debut with a stylish rendition of Ready to Fly'. Carried by an indie inspired framework, Stereo Underground juxtaposes Rona's spirited wails over broken beats, striking stabs and hopeful atmospherics. Coming to full fruition across a two-minute break, the vocal narrative continues to expand, working in perfect unison with meditative melodies and rising modulation, eventually reaching a tasteful crescendo as the groove drops for a thumping conclusion. Also included for the less vocally inclined is an instrumental version which adds further depth and variety to the release. It rounds out a welcome return to Clubsonica for Golan Zocher, who continues to be one of progressive music's most beloved and sought-after artists.
