Much like the two countries newfound relationship, the Ifrit EP collaboration between Morocco’s Amine K (@aminek) and Tel Aviv’s Kadosh (@kadoshofficial) has been a long time in the making.

Started some six years ago during a period of intense and prolific musical output from Amine K, it ultimately was last year’s lockdown that offered the perfect opportunity to revisit and refresh the project, this time inviting Kadosh to spin his own magic into its mythology drawing DNA. The result is a distinct synergy of style, substance and sound – from, Amine K’s ever smile inducing approach to Kadosh’ cutting edge melodies, Ifrit represents both a musical and cultural alliance, and a representation of what is possible within the electronic music underground.

Amine K has been Morocco’s unquestioned ambassador of underground electronic music, planting both its flag and that of the wider underground everywhere from his annual Burning Man appearances to his own globetrotting Moroko Loko events. His fusion of African influence and deep digital rhythms have selectively graced labels like Sol Selectas, Aeon, and Get Physical Music, with an unrestricted flair for universal happiness. With Amine K - the veteran - on hand, Kadosh represents something of the opposite industry trajectory. His whirlwind 36 month rise to the top of Israel’s competitive nightlife scene has now found him an internationally recognized talent. His productions have been selected by everyone from John Digweed to Solomun, while featuring on the likes of Watergate Records, Innervisions, Disco Halal, and more. Not to be outdone, his own Frau Blau Music has been steadily making headway with its own respected release schedule.

This dynamic combination makes Ifrit a perfectly balanced two tracker. The shifting nature of the eponymous track draws from supernatural influence, where the creature of its mystical origins inhabits bodies and minds as listeners get lost within its relentless percussion and psychedelic stabs. Then, not to be outdone in its own mythological origins, ever rising B-side Prometheus is a sonic representation of the Titan fire god. As a champion for humankind, Prometheus’ offerings of fire to Earthly dwellers is one of selflessness and striving, qualities that drive both artists in their own careers and lives.

RAMMÖ makes his debut on XYZ alongside a pillar of the label’s output thus far - Jim Rider. The ever-reliable London to Amsterdam connection is on full display, as the two prodangled uction partners conjoin their staples of sound, which have graced the likes of TRYBESof, Klassified, and Kindisch respectively. For their first project together, they’ve set sights on the bountiful borders of Brazil to form the backbone of influence and inspiration on the Esperança EP.

The A-side opens with rhythmic percussions setting an organic framework, while a round and punchy bassline welcomes electronic tones to the fore. Brazileiro vocal chops summon immense character as the track starts to swirl into a synth-laden groover. Resting perfectly at the centerpoint of modern dance touch and timeless musical homage, Esperança is an instant classic. 

Felicidade continues to thread the needle between innovative production and sensational latin flavors. Serene vocals float along, lulling us into a delightful daze before an acidic underbelly ignites a two-step. Energy elevates throughout this dance-driven riser via the playfully filtered bassline, positioning the B-side as an understated and irresistible club weapon.

Madmotormiquel kicks off the EP’s remix offerings with his deeply psychedelic odyssey. As one of Berlin’s finest, he knows better than most the need for heady cuts that keep minds moving. Whether at Fusion or Garbicz, he’s sure to set things in motion with his remix of Felicidade.

Closing out a sumptuous project, Sound Shapes take the reins on Esperança. The Milan-based duo is making waves of late, with releases on the likes of Stil Vor Talent and Gardens of Babylon. Crisp percussion sprinkles over a vivacious low end, as progressive tones have their remix aimed straight at the dancefloor.

After several appearances on compilations, Aiwaska strikes back to Bar 25 Music with a solo release. Well, not exactly solo but in a brilliant company of vocalist Robert Owens, a pioneer of house music, singing for producers from Larry Heard to David Guetta since ’80s.

For our 49th offering we welcome Boh Oh Boy, Hobin Rude and Liam Garcia who take on remixing duties for Cavemen’s ‘Tied’ EP.
  
Hailing from Germany and France, Boy oh Boy’s mix of dance floor friendly tech and underground house music has earned them spots at supporting Djuma Soundsystem (NO), Uone (AU) and releases on Get Physical Music and Poesie Music.

They offer their take on the title track of the EP, ‘Tied’. A brooding bassline that drives the remix, along with upbeat drum work and synth leads, giving it a dark and melodic feel. The remix is filled with chopped samples and detuned automations that provide impact throughout.

Next up we have Hobin Rude, the Serbian progressive house DJ / Music Producer based in Belgrade. He has released on labels such as Balkan Connection, One of A Kind and Soundteller to name a few.
His ‘Tsjalina’ remix is uplifting and playful with a hypnotic groove that is made for the dancefloor. The lush arps and pads in the break makes it a perfect track for anytime of the day. Ending off the EP is Liam Garcia with his Voodoo Remix of ‘Witch Doctor’.

Liam Garcia currently resides and grew up in Scotland, where he acquired his love for house music through long nights spent at the infamous Arches in Glasgow and underground haven, Snafu, in his hometown of Aberdeen.

Liam Garcia gives the track a club orientated feel with a dark driving bass line. The ambient dub-like synths and effects will take you on a 4 am journey into the abyss.
