Dear Listener,

From the depths comes this gripping new collection of stories from Paris-based producer Davka, and Mexico City-based Leon Lobato. 

On the title track, De Profundis, the pair fuse pulsing bass kicks with electrifying hand drums to underpin ethereal vocals and melancholic synth notes. The result is a thumping journey of sound, textured and layered with hidden gems throughout each of its nearly 8-minute run time.

The inspiration for the track is Oscar Wilde’s letter to an old acquaintance, written from prison. The first half of the correspondence recalls the heyday of their extravagant lifestyles — parties, dinners, hotels. The second half documents Wilde’s discovery of his own spirituality whilst in prison as a direct result of the excesses of his former life.

If Davka and Lobato’s opener De Profundis is the regret-tinged peak of an opulent and indulgent life, then Calm is the exploration of a softer, more introspective side of life.

Pumping drums give way to lighter kicks, kissed by piano flourishes and beautiful synthetic melodies. Calm is, as the name suggests, a peaceful, hypnotic ride that is packed with depth and feeling.

It leads to the EP’s closer, Le Chant De L’Eau, a track that pushes the project in to uncharted territory. The hand drums and thicker beats of ‘De Profundis’ return, but this time they are layered over enchanting melodies and the sound of a single drop of water, playing on a loop.

The track is a perfect finish to the project: sweet, alluring, and very rhythmic, intertwining all of the themes that Davka and Lobato explore on the first two tracks of the EP.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the project comes with a package of remixes from Greg Nairo, Cocho, and George X, who each apply their signature sound to the work already done by Davka and Lobato, taking the cuts in brand new, unforeseen directions.

Fresh new talent from Switzerland and resident of  Nordstern Basel Club, Olivan is a name to watch in the near future. Recently he delivered the beautiful Anafra EP on Ouie Circle label  by Acid Pauli & Nico Stojan. 

Oh his debut EP on Akbal Music, Olivan has created three original master pieces taking them all into different states of mind, he has remained faithful to his musical style at all times. His roots in drumming are recognizable in all three productions through several live percussion recordings. 

Autoscopia is a trippy track. Starting with a  simple groove and mutating to a driving melancholic journey  main with some synths they will take you to a parallel universe. 

Contra Mova a powerful  track accompanied by sampled guitars and driving live percussions. The track is underlined by a strong synth  element and a deeper hypnotic vocal. 

To finish the record, The Riff is a straight forward track with a more techy character. Repetitive guitar riffs, and some quiet guitar plucking comes back aggressively to another wave after the breakdown.

LTR Premiere: GastoM - Distintos (Original Mix)[Outsiders Records]

'After its first series of original releases, the beneficial label established by Luna Club Kiel in Germany invited its family network to remix from the current catalogue. The first three to accept already provided countless trips from behind the decks and succeed effortlessly to ensure that same level of quality for their productions.
Aera who is known for his releases on labels such as Dixon's Innervisions, John Talabot's Hiver or Benjamin Fröhlich's Permanent Vacation starts things off with his remix of Hank's "Coastal Bonds" (STN002). He provides us with a psychedelic version of the original with dream pop influences and house grooves. Next up is the pitch by Say Clap, not only a former Luna resident during his event series called "freq." for many years but also a very deep friend of the club and owner of his own subcultural haven. He takes the original by Gain Of Seven („Until it’s over“, STN002) and transforms it into a rhythmic, percussive groover with strong dub vibes. Closing the first Remix EP of the Save The Night series is resident DJ and Empore Labelhead Valiete with his re-interpretation of Avidus' "Midnight Sun" (STN001). With well selected drum elements and his signature sound nerdism moments, Valiete adds his very own touch to the original and completes the first bunch of remixes with a strong dramatic masterpiece of a remix for his brothers Avidus.

After almost 20 years of club business and countless nights of dancing under mirror balls, Luna Club, which is based in Kiel, brings together a selection of music from friends and family, to make up for the financial losses due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.'

RAMMÖ makes his debut on XYZ alongside a pillar of the label’s output thus far - Jim Rider. The ever-reliable London to Amsterdam connection is on full display, as the two prodangled uction partners conjoin their staples of sound, which have graced the likes of TRYBESof, Klassified, and Kindisch respectively. For their first project together, they’ve set sights on the bountiful borders of Brazil to form the backbone of influence and inspiration on the Esperança EP.

The A-side opens with rhythmic percussions setting an organic framework, while a round and punchy bassline welcomes electronic tones to the fore. Brazileiro vocal chops summon immense character as the track starts to swirl into a synth-laden groover. Resting perfectly at the centerpoint of modern dance touch and timeless musical homage, Esperança is an instant classic. 

Felicidade continues to thread the needle between innovative production and sensational latin flavors. Serene vocals float along, lulling us into a delightful daze before an acidic underbelly ignites a two-step. Energy elevates throughout this dance-driven riser via the playfully filtered bassline, positioning the B-side as an understated and irresistible club weapon.

Madmotormiquel kicks off the EP’s remix offerings with his deeply psychedelic odyssey. As one of Berlin’s finest, he knows better than most the need for heady cuts that keep minds moving. Whether at Fusion or Garbicz, he’s sure to set things in motion with his remix of Felicidade.

Closing out a sumptuous project, Sound Shapes take the reins on Esperança. The Milan-based duo is making waves of late, with releases on the likes of Stil Vor Talent and Gardens of Babylon. Crisp percussion sprinkles over a vivacious low end, as progressive tones have their remix aimed straight at the dancefloor.

The title track, RAD, shares the same name as the 1986 film, which inspired the EP, and it takes us on a progressive journey, with beautiful synth pads and subtle vocal manipulations layered over a strong, knocking drum beat that builds in intensity as the track progresses. 

Not content with stopping there, Powel cuts in and out with stunning synth lines and a snare drum that instantly makes your head bounce a statement of intent for the quality of music that is to follow on this EP.

The project's second song, Out Of Fashion, instantly catches the listener's attention with a stiff, marching beat, eerie stabs and a manipulated vocal sample that swings around the drums. But quickly, the vocoder melts into a gorgeous, pulsating synth line that is urgently propelled along by the percussion towards its crescendo.

Then we're transported deep into Powel's mind for the third cut, where he treats us to a gorgeous slice of melodic goodness on Wine and Cigarettes. It is good-natured and has an old-school groove that grips you and promises to never let go.

And suddenly, just like that, we reach Ode To A Carrot, which takes the form of a euphoric dream, set in a warehouse party in the 90s. Powel serves us a fat, squelchy bassline that is unlike anything else we have heard from him before.

Meshed with wavy pads and a pounding kick drum to create a funky dancefloor anthem, this acts as the perfect closer for a body of work that speaks volumes about a producer who seems incapable of producing mediocre music.

As if that wasn't already enough, the EP is complete with a remix package featuring Haider Uppal and Timo Chinala, Mark Slee, Lauren Ritter, and Brigade. Again, each remix takes the original track in a completely unexpected direction, delighting the listener and highlighting every moment of joy from Powel's original creations.

Nightcolours hit release number 45 with LEGATO’s “More Than You Thought’ EP. A new name to some but one that’s rapidly creating a reputation for high quality music. So much so in fact that his music has already been picked up by All Day I Dream and Eton Messy and had DJ support from Disclosure and The Blessed Madonna.

Nothing Left To Say showcases a more heads down and driving approach from LEGATO. A beautifully nagging bassline is met by swirling atmospherics and teasing vocal snippets building to the release of that bassline once again. Stunning stuff.
