Looking back on yet another night at my favorite place to play in Chicago, Arbella. 
It's been a while since I've shared any of my sets, so why not take a ride with this hour (ish) of my warmup set from a few weeks ago! My pal Christian Voldstad was able to come out to NYC for the first time since the pandemic, which made this night extra special. My aim for this evening was to keep the tempo somewhat low and to create energy and movement through an array of more melodic and groovy tunes...some slightly dusty ;)

Artist Info:
Luca Bacchetti, originally from Italy, is now one of the world’s most sought-after DJs and producers. His professional career kicks off in 1992 as radio speaker on various Italian stations and for 12 years he curates the production of radio programs focussing on club culture, whilst also DJ-ing in the local clubs and venues. At first, he gravitates towards Hip Hop and Black Music generally, but soon falls in love with emerging sounds such as Drum’n’Bass (jungle) and all the mid-nineties urban styles. The terms ‘eclectic’ and ‘multifaceted’ are often used inappropriately but, given the variety and breadth of his musical background and development, in Luca’s case there is no better descriptions. In 2002 he starts to frequent recording studios and produces his first work in 2004, furthering in the meantime his involvement with House and Techno. As a producer he begins to develop a creative vein for what is to become Minimal Techno. It takes only a few releases to put Luca on the map, EPs on Tenax, Wagon Repair and, in 2006, he embarks on a career as international club and festival DJ. Subsequently he will produce works for Ovum, Crosstown Rebels, All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, together with fortunate remixes for many other labels including Peter Gabriel’s Real World X.

"I’ve always been sensitive to my surroundings and the world is in a very vulnerable place at the moment. I felt I needed to express my true emotions through something a little bit different to a conventional DJ mix and also that just writing one song was not going to be enough.

It was almost like composing a score, the only difference being that the pictures were only in my head. My ambition was for the music to evoke a visual response in the listener rather than just an emotional one. To do that I took some audio snippets of real life current affairs scenarios that really struck a chord in me and then used my DJ instinct to think of a track/musical piece that would fit well to that particular scene. Sometimes when I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted I added my own music over existing music or did my own sound design to create my own sound effects and also wrote some original pieces in the moment. It was very important to me to create ultimate flow and I felt this could only have been achieved without having any beats supporting the music. I also didn't want to make it eclectic nor constant as I felt that would disrupt the listener’s focus emotionally. There is a strong dynamic range throughout similar to classical music and also some parts that are almost meditative and then in contrast some more intense moments.

Born and raised in the French speaking part of Canada, Mike has been mixing for few years now. Inspired by all cultures, he is curious about exploring all sounds, and playing a more diverse range of tracks. 

Raised on classic hip hop, he has only dived into electronic music in the past few years. The genre has satisfied the craving for driving, grooving melodies. Developing a passion for moving dance-floors, he uses DJing as a creative outlet; a means to tell a story. Obsessed by the deepest of sounds, his goal is to transport his listeners; through his evolving mixes.
