Bucharest based Emotional Tourist is an artist we are a big fan of! He has released on labels such as When We Dip, Kindisch, Mirrors, 3rd Avenue, Stellar Fountain, Forward Music and Sag & Tre. 

With his own imprint, Mixed Feelings, the label is going from strength to strength. Working with artists such as Kyotto, Hermanez and Powel, are signs that this guy is trusted amongst the scene. A standout release for us, is Powel’s remix of his own track entitled “Mixed Feelings” – it's been on repeat ever since it came out a few months ago!

With a wonderful remix lined up for LOST coming out in December, we are thrilled to have Emotional Tourist put this mix together for us. Be sure to keep an eye out for that release, but for now, hit play and enjoy the set!

It was well into the night when we commenced our search for the Robot Heart Bus. We say search, as the sand storm started earlier in the night had completely covered the desert, making the visibility extremely limited. Since this was our first Burning Man, we weren't well prepared for the fury that nature would bring - our eyes were filled with sand as the shivers of the cold night rolled through our bones. We drove around aimlessly not always knowing whether we're headed in the right direction. All the directional signs were completely covered in sand and any people around us were just as disoriented by the storm while trying to find their own path. 

After a while we noticed a silhouette resembling a glowing heart. As we started moving towards it, there was no doubt that the Robot Heart Bus was in front of us. There really isn't anything like it, and if you haven't seen it before it's not easy to paint its picture with words. Completely covered in speakers and a large flickering heart at the top, the bus stands in the middle of the desert. It's filled with amazing people, who immediately make you feel as if you've known them for a lifetime. 

There are places on earth that are so rapt with special meaning, that from the moment you experience them... the first minute, this unique, magical atmosphere shakes you to your core and settles comfortably into your soul for eternity. For us, Robot Heart at Burning Man is definitely one of those places.

Celestial Mechanica is a glimpse of our solar system that is only allowed by means of an artistic lens that we are providing for you. Because of the massive scale of our solar system it is very difficult to imagine what all of it looks like working together as one. Celestial Mechanica will allow us this privilege. From a distance it may not be clear what we are looking at but as we approach it becomes instantly clear what this is. First we step into a loosely fenced area that is for pedestrians only where all of the Gas Giants are whirling above us. As we get closer to the Sun we can see the Rocky Planets at eye level spinning around their orbits around the Sun. It is now time to step up onto the catwalk via 4 staircases that lead up to an elevated walking area where we can really view the complex mechanics, feel the heat from the Sun’s fire effect and see the orbiting Rocky Planets, now slightly below us and separated by a handrail so that we do not disturb their delicate orbits.

Slow Nomaden is the new side project of Tobias Kroschel, the head behind Sound Nomaden to express his passion for deeper sounds and influences from around the globe. In his DJ Sets and productions he takes the listener on an electronic journey through sounds of different cultures and spheres.

Already his first EP „Jungle“ released on 3000Grad Records in late 2017 got huge support from within the global tastemaker scene including Nico Stojan, Damian Lazarus, Riva Starr, Igor Marijuan just to name a few. In 2018 Slow Nomaden released his next EP called „Gondwana“ on his own label Nu Boheme Recordings. Gondwana was received even better and has reached more than 450.000 plays on spotify to date and was playlisted by several international radio stations and DJ’s. His next EP’s called „Elephant Dream“ and „Vasudeva“ both entered the Beatport Top100 Releases in their Genre Afro House and Electronica/Downtempo. Meanwhile „Vasudeva“ has already more than 600.000 plays on spotify. In 2019 Slow Nomaden released his well received debut album „Journey“. He also released some Remixes on Labels like Lump, Wildfang and Shango Records plus some exclusive tracks for Compilations. His Remix for Dio S reached the Beatport Electronica/Downtempo Top10.

Sali zäme! We’re pleased to announce a phenomenal storyteller from Switzerlands nightlife capital to the Schirmchendrink counter: Temo Sayin shows off his tremendous skills with this tasty Jungle Bird! 

Temo Sayin, head of the Zurich underground movement «Die Empathie», shows, that music doesn't need to be hectic and cluttered to bring people into ecstasy. His deep, open minded organic sounds take you on an unique journey: Melancholic but not sad, sensitive but not cheesy, powerful but not crazy. Sentimental enough to close the eyes and still uplifting to raise the arms.

The Turkish-Dutch started started his DJ career with illegal events in his hometown Zurich, where he quickly gained a recognition for his sensual sets. It was only a matter of time he was invited to play at the most popular clubs across the city. Today, and if you happen to go out in Zurich, it'll be hard not to cross paths with Temo. He has made quite a name for himself and shares the stage with well known artists as Satori, Rampue, Miyagi and many others.

3 QUESTIONS to RAN SALMAN:

Q: Looking back through ages, how did these tracks shape your later career?

A: These tracks opened my appetite to music and Electronic Music specifically, my approach and inspiration to music came out of this. Whether it is Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Deep Dish or Bedrock to name a few, I've been inspired and taken something out of every one of them.

Q: What did you do during the off time we all had in 2020?

A: I've taken the time to build new instruments, produced new music and spent time with my family. It's a bit of a weird time but we have to find the benefits in it, but overall I can't wait to be back on stage.

Q: Which future projects are on the way?

A: A very interesting remix to a famous world music artist is already done and will be available soon, besides I got a many new tracks and an upgraded live show with new instruments which I will reveal soon.

XYZ Selectors 002 - Madraas

This weeks special is a ride between deep house and deep tech, and, if you listen closely, you'll notice some Detroit and Chicago house influence. Yulia Niko's Mezcalita is an awesome groover that gets you started the right way on this monday!

Quickly falling under the spell of House music, Yulia learned to DJ at the age of 15 and was soon a resident in Sochi, Russia, close to where she grew up. After getting her Law degree, Yulia relocated first to Greece, then New York, where she wrote two albums worth of material which ended up getting her signed to a number of labels. Her break out track, ‘Zurich’, was snapped up by Get Physical to widespread acclaim. No wonder she received a coveted ‘One to Watch’ from Mixmag the same year.

In Berlin, where she currently lives, Yulia refocused her attention and wrote another brace of tracks, two of which were picked up by Damien Lazarus’ Rebellion imprint. Now signed to some impressive top-tier labels, Yulia’s studio craft was being recognised by an ever-growing army of high profile admirers including Dennis Ferrer, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, and many others who were playing and charting her music.

Besides her incredible DJ and studio skills, Yulia has impressive business acumen. Setting up her first record label, TochnoTechno back in 2016 showed the tougher end of her musical palette and helped her understand the logistics of the business. With Libe Vibe, she is delivering her second label project, supporting young artists. It explores the relationship between the vibe and energy, a sonic experimentation that will bring new and old sounds together collectively. 

Her latest release, Manifesto EP, is out today on Watergate Records. It comes with three original releases and remixes by YokoO and/or Francesco Mami. Our favorite is the original of "Passion", a percussion-heavy groover with hypnotic vocals. It's our lucky day, Yulia used it in her sensational Mezcalita!

We are honored to host one of our favorite producers of 2020, Swann Decamme.

Swann, the founder of Paris-based label Curiosity Music, is a DJ and producer who distinguishes himself by his open-minded style navigating minimal, deep, and tech house, with a predilection for hypnotic loops and sound waves.

He combines groovy rhythms and synthetic melodies to create incisive tracks, penetrating the brain like powerful psychotropic agents. His high-quality productions have attracted the attention of tech legends such as Richie Hawtin, as well as new talents of deep house and a young crowd.

Swann has four releases scheduled for 2020 on acclaimed labels, Dawn Till Dusk (Melbourne), Earthly Delights (New York), Magician On Duty (Miami)and Time Has Changed (Paris). 

A true globe-trotter, Swann Decamme has appeared regularly in clubs in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. His most recent performances include the SXM Festival in St Martin, and clubs in Colombia, Dominican Republic, London, Barcelona, and Paris.

Swann is the co-founder and artistic director of the Caribbean-based L’Amour à la Plage festival started in 2019. He’s organized all previous series of this crowd-pleasing event, which combines music, artistic expression, and good food in breathtaking surroundings. The next event is scheduled for fall 2020 on the island of Martinique."

Known for his releases on All Day I Dream and iconic sets at Burning Man's Robot Hearts stage, Hoj closes out our week with a dreamy Guest Mix.

Over two decades in dance music have made Hoj more than capable of living up to his reputation as a sonic storyteller. His cinematic sets explore the deep house landscape with a fervor that resonates through dance floors across the globe.

Close colleagues like Lee Burridge simply refer to his style as “Hoj house” rather than attempting to pin down its eclectic nuances. Although a longer road, staying the course of his artistic vision has paid off. In addition to a residency and landmark releases on Burridge’s All Day I Dream imprint, he now provides a platform for like-minded producers by way of their joint venture, Tale and Tone.

An extensive background in the visual arts set Hoj (pronounced with a long Ō) on a path less traveled by the average DJ/producer. Born in Iran and raised in the Bay Area of the U.S., he grew up exposed to film and music alike. Prior to DJing full time his background was in film, design and new media. He was the brainchild behind All Day I Dream’s brand identity, coming up with the single cloud design.

Hoj also discovered electronic music early in life. He attended his first rave in San Francisco in the early 90s, and he experienced the inauguration of legendary warehouse venue Homebase. After DJing for a few years, he made his San Francisco debut at Qoöl Happy Hour, an event series that took place at 111 Minna Gallery.

Soon afterwards he got involved with outfits like Opel Productions and Spundae, which afforded him audiences at the city’s more prominent nightclubs. He went on to help build the inaugural Opulent Temple sound camp for the 2003 edition of Burning Man. He has performed annually at the transformative gathering ever since.

Upon moving to New York City in 2008, however, Hoj outgrew the category of local DJ. Each passing year after that point brought bigger milestones and more momentum.

After his set on the Robot Heart art car during the 2010 edition of Burning Man, he was booked at the world-famous Berlin nightclub Berghain’s Panorama Bar. 2011 saw Lee Burridge launch All Day I Dream to serve the dual purpose of a record label and event brand, and he enlisted Hoj as a resident DJ of the latter. Since then Hoj has brought dance floors to life across the globe. Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City account for much of his fan base, but his following has also grown significantly in locations like Canada, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, Dubai, Romania and London.

2017 marked two especially groundbreaking turning points for Hoj: His long-awaited debut as a producer and the unveiling of he and Burridge’s new record label, Tale and Tone. The label features music the founding DJs play at night, unique tunes with both story and groove. Around the same time, his own Telefade EP, released on All Day I Dream. The three-track EP included “Leap Day” as well as a remix of the title track by Bedouin. Hoj followed up Telefade with his own Tale and Tone release in 2018. Titled “Ramblefog,” it appeared on the imprint’s Prologue compilation, What has followed is more releases on both labels, and a touring schedule that has seen him deliver magic across all four corners of the globe.

XYZ and When We Dip present the Selectors series, where we give our family of producers an opportunity to display their prowess behind the decks. Expect unreleased material from across the label collective, as well as classic gems and heady grooves from some of the undergrounds finest heads.

Emotional Tourist has been firmly in the crosshairs of our scope for some time now, as someone we think is making some of the best deep and melodic sounds around. The Bucharest-bred boy has stepped onto the scene this summer with a supreme EP on Kindisch. With a distinct knack for reworks and edits, his recently released revamp of Sade has been on repeat all week, and we're happy to hear more from him on the latest Selectors.

XYZ Selectors 005 - Emotional Tourist

On a glorious and unusually warm November afternoon, the little witch went for a gathering tour around the woods, accompanied by half a dozen of squirrels.  Global warming is also affecting the witch’s forest, although the effects are being tempered by the dense, lush vegetation.  Anyway, a mild and sunny November day is always pleasant, so it was the ideal day to collect some spices, nuts and mushrooms.  The squirrels knew what was going to happen so they happily interrupted their daily autumn routine of burying nuts all over the place.  The little witch cautiously picked some stinging nettles, dandelions and dwarf mallows from the side of the little stream.  After that she went to the section of the forest with the most majestic trees and the squirrels collected acorns and beech nuts for her (although all squirrels cheekily buried a few nuts for themselves in the process).  Finally, she treaded into the darkest and dampest section of the woods to gather a selection of mushrooms, mainly scurfy twiglets, chanterelles and suede boletes.
After collecting all these plants and fungi, she returned to the central glade of the forest at an unhurried pace, accompanied by a scurry of ebullient squirrels.  After depositing their trove, the squirrels spontaneously returned to the woods as they knew what would come next.  A little later, they returned with some firewood which they deposited at the feet of the little witch.  Then the forest dwellers waited until dusk, when the girl, with a gracious hand movement, created a little floating spark which lazily floated in the air until it landed inside the pile of firewood, setting it ablaze.  All the forest animals snuggled cozily together while enjoying the crackling campfire.  After a while, the fire faded out, leaving behind a small pile of glowing coals in the dark night.  During the afternoon the little witch had dried and pulverized all the plants, nuts and mushrooms she had picked in the woods, and now she gently threw the powder over the glowing pile of wood.  All the animals held their breath as they knew what was going to come.  Soon a column of thick smoke rose up from the fire.  This was the moment they had all been waiting for, the annual message from mother earth, projected on this smokescreen like every year on the 11th day of November.  Would they finally get the answers about the mystifying behavior of all humans, who in March abruptly stopped moving around with their cars and planes, giving a much-needed breather for planet earth to regenerate and purify itself.  Since then, all forest dwellers couldn’t stop wondering why the humans suddenly changed their way of living.  At first, they thought the muggles had become all of a sudden sane, but that theory was shattered after the people gradually reverted to their old behavioral patterns during the summer.  A popular theory among the forest dwellers was that the money printing press of the humans had broken down, effectively grounding the economy to a halt.  Another theory was that the oil well of the humans had run dry, leaving them without fuel to propel their vehicles and planes.  Meanwhile, slowly an image formed on the smokescreen, while all the animals held their breath …
