XYZ and When We Dip present the Selectors series, where we give our family of producers an opportunity to display their prowess behind the decks. Expect unreleased material from across the label collective, as well as classic gems and heady grooves from some of the underground's finest selectors.

Robin Schellenberg is our guest this week on XYZ Selectors. The German producer just released the 'I Am Not My Ego' EP in collaboration with Rauschhaus on top of previous releases on Stil Vor Talent and Einmusika to name a few. In this set, Robin plays tracks from the likes of ALADAG, Adrian Roman and Denis Horvat.

For its last release of 2023, When We Dip XYZ is proud to present a three track remix pack of Motip White’s ‘Clean the Turbines’ EP. 

Kicking things off is Atish, chopping and pitching Motip White’s vocal from ‘What Do You Want Me to Say.’ The Manjumasi label-boss complements the track with a rolling bassline, glitches hitting left, right, and centre, and the gritty bass fills from the original. 
 
Also taking on ‘What Do You Want Me to Say,’ Gespona & Djolee craft huge percussion rolls and manipulate White’s layers and textures. The two artists, who have just launched their own label ‘Rummel,’ leave room for the memorable hook halfway through, which then recedes in favour of the heavy drums. 

Third up is Meera with her take on ‘Clean the Turbines.’ Faithful to her style, which has recently been showcased on VOD and Crosstown Rebels, she opposes a subby kick with a tempest of hats & shakers, harmonically guided by a light piano. The Norwegian producer keeps on building the energy, surprisingly introducing her own vocals and an acid layer on the arp as the tune unfolds.

This artist has proven his mettle before with great releases on labels like fryhide and Klangwelt, and delivers again here. 'Speedway' is a track that takes you on a cosmic journey through sweeping synth explosions and twinkling stars. The heavy drums have a rolling bassline and the whole thing serves to step you up and carry you away. Mark Hoffen's remix is a dark and driving one that throws it back to 90s style. The synths bring light and the pitched up vocals are an emotive hook as the drums roll on. These are two high grade club weapons.

Malóne, the Cuban-born DJ and producer hailing from Miami, is riding some serious momentum off of his biggest year yet in 2023. As a resident DJ of Space Miami, he's left a lasting mark on the scene, boasting a discography released under esteemed labels like Saved, Insomniac, Abracadabra, Watergate and many others. Notably, his tracks "Muy Bien" and "Besame" soared to the #1 spot worldwide in Beatport's AfroHouse segment this year, and his collaborations with Blond:ish garnered admiration from industry titans such as Martinez Brothers, Black Coffee, Marco Carola, and a host of other legendary artists. As one of the original founders of the Hurry Up Slowly imprint, Malóne has ventured off to solely focus on his project in 2023 and has signed a deal with Empire to launch his new label & event series in 2024 called WHYNOTUS.

Malóne's rise in the underground music realm has been underscored by praises such as being recognized as one of the "Future of Dance Artists" by 1001 tracklists in b2b years. Also earning a feature in "DJ Mag Spain'' as one of the artists to watch in 2024. We are pleased to have Nsha on Selectors this week. The French producer has just put out ‘Under Water’ in collaboration with vocalist Shamira on When We Dip Records and is set to release its follow-up, ‘Two Faced’ on AZZUR December 13th. He plays these tracks, on top of tunes from the likes of Yet More and Fka Mash, his own remix of ‘Cheap Thrills’ & ‘Bruma’ by Tchailyn, which has been released a month ago on the label.

Anjunadeep stalwarts Eli & Fur a.k.a Eliza Noble & Jennifer Skillman make a statement homecoming with the four track ‘Night Blooming Jasmine’ EP. The release sees the UK duo return to their songwriting roots - putting their voices front and centre, whilst blending their trademark rolling grooves with a refined production style.

“Our journey as club DJs has inspired us in so many ways and we wanted to draw from those experiences, as well as our more song-based tracks earlier in our career and make something a little different that means a lot to us artistically. We feel this EP merges these two worlds together and we hope that what you hear in these songs, is our love of song-writing as well as the darker, more melodic side of electronic music that tells stories and creates emotions.”

Slow-burning melodies and tense chugging basslines unfurl beneath the reflective lyrics of second EP single ‘Something Was Real’ - “I was walking home from a party that had gotten a bit out of control, my phone died and I’d left alone. My brain was in overdrive, the sun was rising and I was playing things over and over in my mind. Trying to decide whether or not to walk away from something, sometimes the not knowing can drive you crazy.”
