My love story :
僕には中学1年から2年までの間に、付き合っていた彼女がいた。
別にこれは「loves honey,crazy apple」の話ではないし、「"Alice in Wonderland" : crazy apple could not live in real life」の話ではない。
また別に本当の話でもないし、嘘の話ではない。ただ、ここまでの話には嘘はあるだろう。必然的に。
僕のことだから全部本当を書くことは出来ないし、全部嘘で固めることだってできないんだろう。
僕はすぐ根本的なところで嘘をつこうとする。だから失敗したのに。

僕には中1から中2までの間に、付き合っていた彼女がいた。
彼女は林檎さんほど美しかったわけではないが、僕には、僕には美しく見えた。とても、とても。
そうだ、この場所なので彼女のことを仮に林檎さんと呼ぶことにする。
林檎さんは僕と同い年で、ほんの少し遠い中学校に通っていたけど、自転車で会える距離だった。
なぜ知り合えたのかは僕にはわからない。電車に乗っていた僕が居眠りして頭が何かにぶつかった時、そのぶつかったものが林檎さんの肩だった。
恥ずかしくて、顔など見れなかった。
でも、次に電車で居眠りしたときも。ぶつかったものは林檎さんの肩だった。
彼女は起きた僕にこういった。「眠るのが好きなんですね」
そう言われて、彼女の肩の感触が前に一度経験したことがあると思い出す。
林檎さんは肩で眠った僕のことを覚えていて、そう声をかけてきたのだろう、と僕は考えた。
だから、そうじゃない、と言った。最近は眠れていないだけなんだ。
そこで初めて僕は隣の女の子の顔を見るし、隣の女の子を見る。
その子は僕の方をもっともっともっともっと前から眺めていたかのような暖かくてでもちょっと目つき悪いところが良い目でこっちを見ていたし、ほんのり赤い唇は微笑みを浮かべていたし、暗くて艶めいた黒髪は決して他の色には染まらないと主張していたし、右足はちゃんと地面についているのに左足はぶらぶらと揺らしていたせいで脛の白さがチラチラ見えて僕は見たくて仕方がなかったし、細い指は今すぐにでも手をとってしゃぶりたいほどで、とりあえず僕は理由を考えた。
彼女が好きになった。
何かしなければ、何かしなければ。僕は考えた。
考えて、考えて、考えて、考えて考えて考えた挙句、僕がとれたのはそこら辺のカッコつけてる奴らと同じように、連絡先を聞くことだけだった。
どうせ、教えてくれないだろう、と思った。
だけど林檎さんは何を考えたのか、僕の携帯の電話帳に自分の名前を並ばせることを選んだ。
僕は幸せだった。なにも考えてないバカで、とてつもなく幸せだった。幸せは罪だ。無知は罪だ。

そこから僕と林檎さんはちょくちょく会うようになって、でも僕は何を言えばいいのか分からなかったから適当なことしか言ってなかったし、彼女も何を言えばいいのか分からなかったから適当にうんうんと頷いていた。
それは幸せだったのだ。少なくとも、僕にとっては。彼女にとって幸せであったなら、なお良い。
そして僕は気づいた、これは「付き合ってる」というモノなのかと。僕はちっぽけで弱い人間だ。「そうだよ」も「違う」も聞いて傷つくのはわかっていたから、彼女には聞けなかった。
でも林檎さんはある日、「私達、付き合ってるみたいだよね。むしろ、付き合ってるのかな。」
僕は言った。「そうだといいね。」
それを聞いた林檎さんは顔を真っ赤にした。彼女はこれをプロポーズの意味でとったらしかった。もう素晴らしくバカップルである。幸せだった。
僕らは純粋無垢な中学生で、単純に知識とか興味とかはあったけど、なんだか恥ずかしくて言えてないこともふたりとも分かってて、でも僕はこの時間がもっと長く続くだろうと考えてあえて考えも言いもしなかった。バカだ、


僕と林檎さんがそうやってダラダラやっているうちに、一年が過ぎて、彼女がレイプされた。
林檎さんは嫌いな人にはすっごい口は悪いし、そもそも目付きが悪くて喧嘩売ってるように見える。あんなに優しいのに。
下らないことを言って傷つけてしまいそうなとき、彼女は人には関わらない優しさを持つ。
でも、理解されなかった。彼女は目立って、クラスの中の偉そうな女子に目をつけられた。
林檎さんは、強かった。何をされても、無視し続けた。そして、もっと関わらないよう、目立たないよう努力した。
その主犯格のこの世に存在しなくて良かった女子は、金を使った。
男子にお金を渡して、犯してくるよう言ったらしい。
しかも、彼女が居ない童貞に見える奴らばっかりにだ。僕だってまだ童貞だっていうのに、図々しい。
そして、林檎さんは処女じゃなくなって、学校には行かなくなった。
僕は何も知らずに童貞のまま中学校に通う。
彼女と会う日は多くなった。僕は疑問にも思わなかった。とてつもないバカなのである。僕というやつは。

そして僕は生まれて初めて地面についていない人間を見ることになる。
春になる前の季節、雪は地域的に降ることはほとんどないし、その日も降ってはいなかったけど、僕は降っていて欲しかったと、彼女の家から帰るときに思う。
最近は林檎さんは薬を飲まないと眠れなくて、僕と会った日だけ少ない量で寝れたんだと林檎さんの両親が言う。
でも、あの日は久しぶりに僕が会えなかった間隔が長かった。だから、夕方、起きたら会おうと、電話した。
そして、寝ようとして布団に入り、寝れなくて、何も考えず首を吊る準備を始めた。
彼女は学校をやめてから昼夜逆転の生活を送っていたから、寝るのは朝か昼だ。その日は、運悪く両親共に働きに出ていた。
僕は何も知らない。学校が終わって、自転車をまたいで、彼女の家に向かう。
僕は何も知らない。僕は何も知らない。彼女の家の前に着く。
僕は何も知らない。僕は何も知らない。僕は何も知らない。彼女の家のチャイムを鳴らす。

何も知らない何も知らない僕は、ドアが開いていることに気づく。
彼女は寝る前にドアを閉める。でも、僕が彼女に家に行った時だいたい彼女を起こしに行く事になるので、両親に黙って僕は合鍵をもらっていた。
「学校から帰ったらすぐ寝ちゃうんだ」、彼女の嘘は可愛く、今になっては虚しい。
彼女の部屋のドアを開けると、排泄物の匂いと、地面についていない彼女の姿が見えた。
