Recorded in Sao Paulo with an allstar cast of Arteria FM (on vocal duties), Salvador Araguaya (caressing the Viola Caipira) & Spaniol (stroking the Baixo), steered by Nicola's production prowess, this quartet delivers a melodic enhancement to the summer sun. As if the sun wasn't shining bright enough already, the single comes backed by a remarkable remixer ensemble procured from their duties as fellow sun-worshippers : Xique-Xique's Dragonfruit Mix is a wondrous journey full of surprising leaps and bounds, alternating between hypnotic electronics and organic song structure. 'Campo Triste' está inspirado en el famoso tema ecuatoriano "La Bocina', en este caso (sample) interpretado por Soledad Morales, cantante invidente quien radicó en Sigsig, pequeño pueblo de la provincia del Azuay. No fue sorpresa encontrar que el productor ecuatoriano Pancho Piedra, habitante de Cuenca, Ecuador, se encontrara trabajando en una re interpretación de este tema. Tiene sentido, toda una generación dedicada a la radio, transmitiendo joyas resguardadas en las bóvedas de 'Radio Tomebamba'. 

Así continua la familia Piedra, en poder de antiguos discos que cuentan la historia de un Ecuador nostálgico, liderado en aquellas épocas por el timón y los arreglos de don Polibio Mayorga. Este es un homenaje contemporáneo sin duda, con el fin de rescatar ese anhelo sonoro de aquellos tiempos.

We are honoured to present a very special and very beautiful Botanas from the hand of Ecuadorian producers Nicola Cruz and Pancho Piedra. 

Campo Triste' is inspired by the famous Ecuadorian song "La Bocina", in this case with a sample from a version sung by Soledad Morales, a blind singer from Sigsig, a small town in the province of Azuay. It wasn't a surprise for Nicola to discover that Pancho Piedra, a fellow Ecuadorian producer living in Cuenca, was working on a reinterpretation of the song. Everything made sense - Piedra belonging to a generation that is dedicated to treasuring and transmitting musical gems from the vaults of the city's "Radio Tomebamba". 

In this way the story of the Piedra family continues, holding in their hands these old records that tell, with nostalgia, the history of Ecuador, led at the time by don Polibio Mayorga’s arrangements. 

While this is undoubtedly a modern tribute, it also captures and revives this nostalgic piece of musical longing from another time. 

This Botanas also features three precious remixes from fellow Ecuadorian Quixosis, Mexico's Jiony and Chile's Rodrigo Gallardo.

I recorded this set at The Sanctuary Rome, for me it was one of the most special sets i've played, this beautiful roman crowd allowed me to create the mood im looking for in all my gigs: Savy. But WHAT IS SAVY? Savy is the perfect combination between Sexy and Ravy. When you can make people dance and move in a trance but at the same time you are taking them higher and higher.

Also in this set you will hear 2 songs from the EP YAM of Satori, the EP is called YAM as a festival I do, Djordje or mostly known as Satori made this track/EP for the the sunset of Yam Acapulco, and it talks about how the sun melts with the moon during sunsets.

The past 18 months (since the last time I posted my Fusion recording) have been truly memorable for me, with many unforgettable experiences all over the world, new places, new friends and above all some amazing support along the way. I am grateful to have this opportunity to travel around the world to stages where I can expose my music. 

One of the key moments came back on April 1st when I closed DGTL Amsterdam’s Frequency Stage. I was exhilarated throughout, and I felt that I achieved a very strong connection with the people that were there that day. So much, so that I decided to go back to my studio to record the set again, so that I could share it with everyone once more here. Thank you to everyone that let this set come alive. Much of dance music might have been on pause in 2020, but not Roska (@roskaroskaroska). The vital underground powerhouse has continued to put out a steady stream of high quality singles both solo and in collaboration with the likes of Syren Rivers, Ruby Wood and Serocee. He collected them all together this summer on Eight Trax, a mini album on his own Roska Kicks & Snares which tells the story of an artist who still finds freshness in UK funky having played a key part in its initial emergence over a decade ago. On top of this, he also assumed his Bakongo alias again recently to serve up his unique take on UK rhythms with the new 3 x 2 EP on Livity Sound, which comes after years of veering into UKG, house and various other mutant strains of bass heavy music on labels like Tectonic, Rinse and Hotflush.  

This week he digs deep to serve up a podcast filled with a mixture of his key influences and personal favourites. "The whole theme is how genres outside of dancehall have been influenced by dancehall," he says of a sunny selection including material from Sean Paul, Major Lazor, DJ Gregory, Kenny Dope, Karizma and DJ Zinc next to plenty of his now new beats old and new. It's a real history lesson that brings us right up to the present day and beyond.
