James Bracken cut his teeth as a sideman lending his soulful vibrato and rhythm playing to Ian Hilmer’s Stagefright, an alternative string band from southern MN. The band performed extensively regionally, steadily gaining grassroots momentum circulating live bootlegs but never releasing an album, which ultimately ended the band and each of the members went on to front their own project.  

Several hundred bar gigs later a fortuitous connection with Rochester producer Fires of Denmark led to a productive series of recording sessions documenting Bracken’s expansive catalog and tracking a brand new batch of songs set to be released as Echo Messenger.

The original version of "Atlas" always gave me a slight pain in my neck when I listened to it. I was never quite lucky with the generated drums, and the song also had a somewhat slushy note.
So I asked K2 and the Three (https://soundcloud.com/k2andthe3) if he would like to play drums and refurbish the song. Luckily he did and how... and now I feel very released about this rerelease... :)

This is one of those songs, you just had to get off your chest! All of you creatives will understand that. Its not the hippest or the coolest song , even the music  is understated and the production is lacking, but the words are where the heart is .

This song has me crying by second verse every time  so had to do a few takes to keep from choking.  This one is definitely the kind of vocal talent I do not even fathom having but  I think as a tribute turned out half decent… I think.

With "Temporary Souls", Esplanada offers a musical meditation on fragility and impermanence.
