BLACK GIRL/WHITE GIRL - Never Do (Boski Remix)

The Discotexas collective reaches out to a fine selection of remixers to tackle two different tracks by Discotexas co-owner Bruno Cardoso AKA Xinobi from his Puma release. Chosen to rework the material are Mirror People, Malente, Bufi and Moullinex.

Up first, Mirror People who released on labels like Permanent Vacation and Bear Funk as well as Discotexas. His remix of ‘Woods’ is a joyous and colourful one with dancing piano chords, skipping beats and plenty of happy disco dazzle. There’s sufficient jack in the beats to make it a floorfiller without losing any of the musical charm of the rest of the track.

Malente of No Brainer Records then gets dirty on his nice and rough sounding rework of ‘Puma’. He strips it back to a curious melody lead, squelchy percussion and driving bassline that will have dancefloors all marching in happy unison to the locked on drums.

Bufi has also released on this label before now as well as on Kitsune, and his take on ‘Woods’ is a dark, tense thing with a taught bassline, airy vocal stabs and plenty of depth. A stunning breakdown is laced with plenty of tension before the groove lands again and sweeps you off your feet.

Xinobi’s Discotexas partner, Moullinex is a highly acclaimed producer creating many different styles of music and has won fans across the board from NME to Mixmag. His re-work of ‘Puma’ is a stunning,

sunny thing that has plenty of wiry synths, funky basslines and organic percussive hooks at its core. Vocal yelps help bring a party starting human element and the whole thing feels warm, humid and inviting.

Each of the four remixers here very much bring their own flavours to the table and breathe plenty of new life into what was already fantastic source material by Xinobi.

SKALA and Xinobi unite, in a collaboration that has been a long time coming and is rooted in a long mutual admiration of each other's work. The first signs of SKALA’s affinity with DTX came when she co-headlined an ADE event with them earlier this year, as part of the label Amaeo which she co-founded with her partner Theologos.

Described by Xinobi as a track whose conception started with the simple suggestion of "we should do a track together", SKALA is in good company with Xinobi as on "Electrified" they prove to be a sonic foil for each other, as after just a few attempts what emerged was a track that combined much of their personalities and unmistakable hallmarks as "Electrified" gradually builds and then soars with euphoria, inviting reflection as well as dancefloor ready moments. For both artists it rounds out a prolific year, and is set to be released on Discotexas on January 17th, 2025.

Throughout his career, Nandu has been affiliated with several record labels, but it is his association with industry heavyweights like Innervisions and Afterlife that has propelled him to success. His EPs and features in the VA compilation series Secret Weapons and Unity have brought his name to the forefront, making him a recognizable and beloved artist within the melodic dance music scene. Recently his contributions to Tripolism have garnered great support from Pete Tong at BBC Radio 1 with their breakthrough track "Dope Dance".

A lifelong fan of electronic music, Hyperbolic Function began playing  instruments at the age of 13 and started DJing at 16. After moving to London in 2009, he immersed himself in the underground scene, which deeply influenced his sound and his dedication to the genre led him to found and manage the successful techno blog, The Techno Kittens.

Based in London, Hyperbolic Function has performed at iconic venues such as Electric Brixton and The Shelter. He also hosted Melodic Electronic on Music Box Radio, where his dynamic DJ sets and finely tuned productions found a dedicated audience.

His music is known for its progressive and melodic sound, characterised by a euphoric yet melancholic rave edge, enriched with intricate melodic layers. His debut EP, Ascending, released through Reckoning Records, soared the progressive house charts taking the #1 releases spot and peaking at #7 & #11 in the Hype and Top 100 charts.  

Currently, he is working on new music including a new EP, remixes, and preparing for upcoming DJ gigs.
