Dead Man REMIX by Camilo Lara / Mexican Institute of Sound MIS / Instituto Mexicano del Sonido IMS

In 2012, Camilo Lara invited Brian Lopez and Gabriel Sullivan down to Mexico City to join his band Mexican Institute of Sound in front of 100,000 fans at Vive Latino festival. Now with their own band XIXA, Brian and Gabriel have this time around invited cumbia maestro Camilo to join them and remix the track "Dead Man" of their debut album ‘Bloodline'. The remix drops just in time for XIXA's Mexico debut at Vive Latino 2017 and another four week European run hitting London, Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, Westway Festival Portugal and Paaspop Festival Netherlands among many others. 

The band has been steadily touring since the album’s release in February 2016, between SXSW’s Levitation and Globalfest appearances, Amsterdam’s Paradiso, Brussel’s Botanique, club and festival shows all over Europe and the US including Lowlands, BlueBalls Lucerne, ArianoFolk Italy, but also at AHA Festival Santa Fe and Green River Fest Massachusetts, later in the year being featured at legendary TV-Festival WDR Rockpalast Crossroas and Crossing Border Den Haag.

The debut album ‘Bloodline’ (Barbès/Glitterhouse, 2016) gained immediate media-attention such as R2, Rolling Stone, Les Inrocks, Q Magazine, Musikexpress, Sounds and Colours, and seeing airplay on KEXP, KCRW, and CMJ amongst others and has been featured as the record of the month on French public radio FIP. Uncut called the album a "haunting, mesmerising stew” and R2 Magazine "an impossible-to-categorise blend of indie, americana and chicha” from a "superbly eclectic outfit”.

XIXA tune in the wild frequency of the Sonoran desert, in glittering, gritty rock’n roll twin lead-guitars blended with psychedelic cumbia. The band hails from the always-flourishing Tucson indie-rock scene where Brian Lopez, Gabriel Sullivan and legendary drummer Winston Watson are also members of the last acclaimed incarnation of Giant Sand and have international credits with the likes of KT Tunstall, Sergio Mendoza, X’s John Doe, Calexico, and even Dylan and Alice Cooper. 

In the meantime, the band is recording their upcoming album, scheduled for next winter and getting ready to hit the road again in spring and for summer festivals.
