Hubie Davison makes his artist debut on Leisure System with the I Won’t Be There EP, an expansive collection of lush, interplanetary house that is at once vaguely exotic and completely entrancing.

Hailing from Ireland and previously studying music composition in London, Davison synthesizes the emotive melodicism of artists like John Talabot and Caribou with the bare grooviness of Nicolas Jaar, incorporating phantasmagorical vocal samples into a refined instrumental palette. I Won’t Be There is an ethereal listening experience, with tracks developing from calm restraint to exhilarating peaks. Whether it’s the gentle rainstorm that introduces “Mannequin Move,” the gauzy hollers of “Yeh Sai,” or the pulsing piano chords and swollen bass of standout opener “I Won’t Be There,” Davison has a fully-formed feel for mellow grooves, while the thumping, floor-ready Dayvision Rework of “I Won’t Be There” should be getting played out at Panorama Bar for months to come.

Michele Mininni is from Southern Italy where he says people are not interested in his type of music so he was forced to reach out to Glasgow where it turns out some people most defintely are. Citing his influences as kraut, post rock, new wave and electronic amongst others, this is his debut release and most accomplished it is too. Lowering the tempo somewhat compared with previous OT releases, Tupolev Love is a sub 100bpm cosmic trancer while Telekomdisko raises the tempo and heads off into sun drenched space territory. The EP is completed by Michele's fellow countrymen, Boot & Tax's great acid inflected remix of Tupolev Love.


Optimo Trax OT 007 is released on 12" and digital April 2014. Distribution by Kompakt and Rub A Dub.

"This is the cover of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists, On The Beach by Neil Young. When i first heard that song, i felt like i could have or should have written it. The lyrics are so dark and beautiful, they relate to the slightly autistic part that a lot of artists are hiding and the artist condition in general. But I'm no Neil Young when it comes to song-writing, so instead of trying to write something as good, I decided to make a cover, twist that blues tune and turn it into something completely different and (much to my surprise) even darker, to the point where most people don't even recognize the original song." Who better to kick off the inaugural release of SOBO [Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest] than Patrick Holland, best known as Project Pablo. Affiliated with the Canadian Riviera's 1080p troupe, as well as Seb Wildblood's Church and Lone's Magicwire – Holland now adds Beaubien Dream as the fourth instalment to his 12" series. The Beaubien connection comes from Montreal's Rue Beaubien, of which Holland is a resident. SOBO is headed up by fellow longstanding citizens of the Beaubien Ouest hood, Arbutus Records and their extended family – of which Holland is an instrumental part.

An initial teaser of the EP's opening "Closer" was aired publicly during Holland's BR London set back in October, as well as his NTS appearance with Lone and Gabriola earlier this year. Now, after a patient seven-month wait, we can finally wrap our mitts around it in its entirety. Alongside its two subsequent components, the track acts as a homage to Holland's home. With its distinctive Dx7 melodies, jingly percussion provided by bells (of the cow variety amongst others) and an insatiable groove growing lazily throughout – "Closer" is instantaneous happiness.

Following their eponymously titled 2016 arrival on Midland's Graded imprint, as well as a recent follow-up on Dark Entries, @Solitary-Dancer return to the label on which they made their debut. Once again, this three-track 12” blends electro, ambient, and acid to superb, undeniably modern effect. 

With a running time of nearly 12-minutes, the title track 'Transmitting To Heaven' is an ambitiously sweeping cut that subtly moves through its various shades, from electro and acid, to strobe-lit 90s rave.

The B-side kicks off with 'Birth of Saturn', built around an arpeggiating synth that shifts and morphs throughout the track as the intensity ascends. The 12” closes off with 'At The End Of The Corridor Of Love, A Loss', a slow burning ambient piece that is as sombre as it is cinematic.
