New Year’s Eve is here and in honour of the occasion, we’re forgoing our characteristically downtempo Sunday Mix for a special weekend instalment of our flagship series, with Max Cooper at the controls. Bookmark this one for whatever you have in store for this evening – or any other occasion, of course.

In his own words, the innovation-driven producer and visual artist opts for a “psychedelic techno adventure” featuring tracks from JakoJako, Barker, Oliver Coates, Rival Consoles, ANNĒ and Venetian Snares. “Lots of melodies and beautiful feelings to get lost in," Cooper begins, "but also lots of unexpected turns and mind-mangling soundworlds, and plenty of genre-hopping so you never quite know what's around the next corner."

I love playing music set to visuals. Usually it's set to my video collaborations for my live shows, but this time I got to DJ amongst Christopher Bauder's light installation at Dark Matter in Berlin to create an audio-visual conversation. 

The audience in Berlin is amazing too, being the magnet for electronic music people that it is, and not being one of the historic clubs there with their specific musical identity to integrate with, this was anything goes and just feeding on the energy in the room. And there was a lot of energy in the room, as you can hear in the mix. 

I let loose pretty much…. It’s a club set, how I'm into club sets, at least. With some new unheard things in there and lots of old favourites from over the years.

FX-driven Jamaican soundsystems meeting the machines of techno with an abstract sound and loosely repetitive rhythms stucture, along with some usage of low end sonics - that's what dub techno is about. This music is a sonic experience far beyond the narrow pathways of techno, demonstrating that there is a universal code which connects repetitive patterns of organic sounds with club music. With a string of mind-altering atmospheres & warped basses and punchy beats to the fore, this mix is akin to an hallucinatory trip through the farthest reaches of psychedelic electronic music.

Appetite For Selection 240 - Charles Webster

This edition of In Concert is dedicated to Russian producer Artur Galstyan aka Heavenchord. Galstyan is a bit of an enigma. According to his short bio he started DJ-ing in 1998 and organized rave parties and international electronic music festivals in Armenia from 2002 to 2004. After moving to the South of Russia, he started producing his own original music. The last twenty years he released more then 116 albums, ep’s and singles, at least according to discogs.com, which makes him probably one of the most productive techno-ambient producers in the world.
