Legendary duo Matt Black and Jonathan More aka Coldcut deliver a boundless career spanning Bleep mix. Since the late 1980s, their sound has morphed from cut-and-paste approaches into some of the foundations of every alternative and electronic hip-hop LP made well into the millennium. The duo’s exclusive Bleep mix is testimony to how deep their impact has been over the years, as each selection indelibly refracts from their own innovations. Actress and Floating Points are in there, as well as some ace remixes of Marie Davidson and Cinematic Orchestra, and of course, a smattering of Coldcut’s own collaborations with Bug Brand Modular and Synth Farm.

Ambient dub is an electronic fusion of ambient and dub reggae, featuring the atmosphere of the former and the Jamaican style basslines, percussion, and psychedelic production techniques of the latter. The name of the genre was coined by the Beyond label with a series of compilation albums of the same name, starting with Ambient Dub Volume 1: The Big Chill in 1992. Waveform Records was also generally considered to be the American counterpart of the Beyond label out of the UK, which was exclusively devoted to the Ambient Dub movement. While the lines are blurred between these electronic genres, ambient dub can genuinely be discerned by its denser atmospheres, slow tempo, a heavier use of reverb and/or delay, and an emphasis on bass akin to traditional dub. It also echoed dub pioneers who used their studio as an instrument, like King Tubby and The Scientist.

Heres my first ambient mix, since the "Best Served Chilled" tapes of 94 & 95 and a rather lengthy four hours in total thanks to developments in technology & a substantial collection of ambient music. I decided to split them into two parts and offer the files at 320kbps after getting some feedback on various forums on what is the perfect ambient mix.. I may upload the whole mix in one piece later..I feel this mix is more suited to personal listening rather than trying to chill people out at a social gathering, as it shifts from very dark minimal drones and deep environmental sounds to gentle classical pieces to pure space music & occasionally returning to earth with more emotional compositions . Fortunately due to the very long running time of the mix I was able to included full length versions of most of the tracks while using a repeated theme at various intervals using multi-tracking additional looping & effects.

A 57 minutes extended edit version of The Orb's Blue room (1992) with several weird samples underlying the Orb's music. In fact, I have used more than 50 voice samples and extended the track from 34 minutes to 57 minutes with the awesome basslines of The Orb and studio wizardry of Kris Weston. I will remove it upon request. NO LSD was used during this process.

This is a fairly good example of how eclectic it used to be back in those days (twelve years ago), I was just as likely to drop Hip-Hop, Techno, Drum&Bass, House, Rock and Reggae and everything in-between.
