'Kiyoko is a new project from Joe Mcbride (Synkro) and partner Jack Lever (Bering Strait). Joe and Jack set about writing an album purely from old analogue gear, circuit bent kids toys, live drums, guitars and samples from old vinyl and Japanese flavored soundscapes. The result is their debut LP 'Sea Of Trees' one of Auxiliary records' most adventurous releases to date. This is their very first remix!

:PAPERCUTZ - Where Beasts Die (Kiyoko Remix)

September 20th marks the 30th birthday of Berlin pianist Nils Frahm, but also the day he has chosen to give his fans a special gift in the form of 9 songs he recorded with 9 fingers, entitled 'Screws'.

Nils experienced an unfortunate accident which saw him fall from his bunk bed located directly above his studio, which resulted in a broken thumb. But through inspiration from his fans and after a gentle walk and talk through the park with a close friend, he decided to deal with the situation in the only way he knew – playing his piano.

With four screws surgically placed inside his thumb, he started recording with his remaining 9 fingers, what later resulted in 9 intimate piano recordings.

Fans can download 'Screws' as mp3s or in full 24-bit 44.100 kHz audio quality here (http://screws.durtonstudio.com), and pre-order a Vinyl/CD edition from the Erased Tapes online store (http://erasedtapes.com/store/index/ERATP046), which will be released later this year.

'I am sitting in front of a sheet of paper. My right hand is bending over my left thumb. The first day I got out of my cast I could bend it by 15°. Now I am already at 50° and that makes me happy. Things are going uphill...

As you can imagine, it is really bad news for a pianist when he gets diagnosed with a broken thumb. That day I was sitting in the emergency room, feeling rather dizzy while thinking of a zillion shows coming up and all the people involved around it. I realised in that moment how busy things have become. It is hard to turn down interesting projects and opportunities, since I surely love my work. It actually never felt like work. Playing piano and playing it for wonderful people is the greatest joy I can imagine.

For a couple of days I felt like this all could be over. How pathetic. But hey – also feeling sorry for yourself has its place somewhere. All of a sudden I had so much time, an unexpected holiday. I cancelled most of my schedule and found myself being a little bored. Even though my doctor told me not to touch a piano for a while, I just couldn't resist. I started playing a silent song with 4 fingers on my left and the remaining 5 on my right hand. I set up one microphone and recorded another tune every other night before falling asleep.

The day I got rid of my cast I had recorded 9 little tunes. They have helped me feel less annoyed about my accident and reminded me that any good is something I can only achieve, when I am making the most out of what I've got.

For this one I wanted to make something soft and enveloping that puts a sort of heavy relaxed feeling onto the listener, with the clicks and subtle rhythm to carry it along. A gravity well is an area of space that is warped by a large mass, looking something like a well in 2D representations hence the the name, and an area of space where you would feel the inescapable heavy pull of gravity all over your body, which was the feeling I was trying to produce with the track - For the mass I was thinking something a bit heavier than the earth, but not so heavy as to be painful. This one has a video on the way too, following the same concept, that should be ready this week!

Bit Funk - The Long Road Ahead

Recorded on the anniversary of JFK's assassination and 21 years after their historic '92 New Year mix on Kiss 100 FM, Coldcut meets The Orb inna Uptown Youth House for the Return Trip. Matt Black and Jonathan More alongside studio accomplice Dor Wand got suitably enhanced with Dr LX Paterson and Youth for a multi-player late night jam session lasting over 3 hours. They then entrusted the multitracks of the set to DJ Food who heroically edited, condensed and massaged the sprawling swamp of sound into a tight - but also loose - 2 hour Solid Steel session.

Swimming through the mix are Lee Perry, Killing Joke, Sun Ra, William Burroughs, Teebs, Ry Cooder, Actress, Prince Jammy, Iggy Pop, Monty Python, Hank Williams and Hal 9000. Alongside unreleased dubs from the players themselves, remixes and versions of tunes old and new, the complete track listing for this marathon set may never be fullly disclosed. It's 2 hours, 10 minutes of sonic secrets to melt your mind, probably best listened to in headphones late at night with all suitable facilities for the full effect. Enjoy this trip.

'Night Bus' is a new eleven track compilation by Melodica Recordings. Pulling in the work of a localised group of young producers from South London, this collection is the beginning of a series or releases from the label that focuses on specific neighbourhoods in London and beyond. Here's what the label has to say about it:   

'First, the simple answer - It’s an electronic music soundtrack that works rather well on that long, late night journey on the night bus. It’s atmospheric, ethereal, ambient, modern music with just enough drive to get you home. It’s music to help you stare out of the window and notice the little details that make the ride kind of special. It’s music to take you there and help you feel like you are somewhere else.

Then, the more complicated one - ‘Night Bus’ is a collection of music made by a new generation of South-London based producers who work around the disadvantages of the current economic climate, resorting to computer programs and midi keyboards to create their musical exodus; who have grown up in the metropolis plugged into music on their mobiles, listening to Dubstep and Hip Hop and auto tune pop and the sound of the city itself; who have filtered all this through their software to nurture and create a new sound, a new feeling, a new C21 ambient that, sometimes unconsciously, draws on the spirit of the classic artists to create a new style. Everyone from Erik Satie to Brian Eno to Tangerine Dream to Burial is hidden in there somewhere. ‘Night Bus’ is steeped in history but it has a sound that is all its own, and now it’s becoming a genre in its own right.'

Night bus is a compilation put together in collaboration by recording artist Jamie Isaac, film maker Wesley Stokes Mellor and Melodica Recordings label boss Chris Coco.
