Leeds based duo Rkyv bring the fire for the third digital release on Sonaré Music, with a four track EP, including a remix from the amazingly talented Laura Jones. The EP takes the Sonaré collective to a much deeper and darker place than previous releases, bringing more diversity and variation to their imprint.

This is a huge track from the duo which is sure to smash dance floors everywhere, with a deep emotional main room vocal, accompanied with some lovely house chords and atmospheric builds, driven on by its skippy breaks style drums & percussion.

A truly outstanding remix from Laura Jones. A remix that ouse's class, with a breaks style feel to the drums and percussion running parallel with a dynamic subby bass and relentless groove, fit for any dance floor.

Behind you (Original mix)
A dark minimal production with industrial techno elements, which takes you on a timeless journey full of atmospheric builds and FX, powered by a driving sub-bass and deep vocal elements, Rkyv really show their dark side on this one.

Running man (Original mix)
A journey through space and time with the downtempo laidback melodic-breaks/house track, which brings an almost relaxing electronic journey. This track delivers hypnotic atmospheric sounds with a soothing chilled vocal, riding along with that skippy drum and percussion arrangement that is synonymous with the other tracks on the EP.

After a start DJing around the UK, Leon’s focus shifted to production as he released his debut EP Music for the Uninvited, and a widely acclaimed first album on Ninja Tune called Nothing in Still. Inspired by his grandparents emigration from the UK to New York, Nothing is Still also included a novella and a set of short films, an entire world crafted from the seed of the music. His second and much loved album Rare Forever, however, focused inwards, as Leon explored his own identity, capability, and ambition; although it lacks a traditional narrative, Leon himself became the protagonist. With Rare Forever as a jumping off point, Leon and I explore his journey in self-acceptance, his growth as an artist, and how to thrive from failure as well as success.

"What is it about my music that's touching other people?" One of the forefathers of techno reflects on his legacy, the state of techno music and the city of Detroit live from IMS.

Most people in nightlife are familiar with the name Juan Atkins. One of the originators of techno, he grew up in Belleville, a middle-class suburb of Detroit, and would become one of the Belleville Three alongside Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. This first wave of Detroit techno artists was inspired by the late night emissions of radio DJ The Electrifying Mojo—a late-night presenter who famously mixed different synth music, like Krautrock and the German outfit Kraftwerk—and the writing of futurists like Alvin Toffler, who imagined a different, utopic vision of urban life and technology. 

In this keynote interview recorded live at International Music Summit in Ibiza, Atkins reflects on his roots and the musical movement that's grown from his first experiments with techno in the '80s. Returning to his adolescence, he unpacks the origins of his electro collaboration Cybotron, his solo project Model 500 (coming to Houghton this year) and his label, Metroplex, which became a blueprint for a hoard of techno imprints that would emerge in its wake. Now 61, Atkins also reflects on the broader impact music has had on his life—he has given lectures on the intersection of physics, music and spirituality—as well as the remaining stones left unturned as he enters the (very much still active) sunset in his career. It’s hard to avoid clichés when describing Fred P's music. It feels almost ineffably deep, whether he's going full-on ambient or minting his signature house tracks. We get a taste of the latter on his latest offering for his subscription-based label, Private Society.
