Lusine has been one of my favourite producers for a long time. I'm just going back over some of his first releases on Ghostly International from the early 00's, and it's amazing how ahead of the game he's always been. His combination of delicate productions and beautiful warm analogue melodies, intricacies and amazing shuffling grooves have been a big inspiration for me over the years, with his "A certain distance" album from 2009 being one of my all-time most listened too albums.

So Lusine was one of my ideal remixers for the album, and thanks to Sean at Decibel festival, the hookup was made and he was into the idea. He's turned out a beautiful remix of Woven Ancestry, which if you've seen me play recently, you probably heard in my set. The mix has special balance of being a great piece of music to listen to at home, but then when it's unleashed in a club it's groove takes on a whole new life which I hadn't seen coming until I tried it out - Thanks Jeff!

"Forever," the title track from his forthcoming EP is laid-back and contemplative, with an easy pop sensibility running through. It sounds like ODESZA's chilled out older brother who's stopped trying to panty-drop every sorority girl in the room with every track he writes. Apt as it may sound at first glance, that's not really a fair statement. Ambassadeurs is a nimble little project, he's dipping in and out of sounds with ease since before "M.O.P.E" dropped that quintessentially broken hip hop beat in 2012 and announced him to the world at large.

Philadelphia's PJ Geissinger aka Starkey is best known for his ass-kicking “street bass” fusions – but anyone who's followed his decade-long career will know he has a penchant for enormously deep and subtle soundscapes. Which is why we're excited about the launch of his new non-club music NOREMIXES label, and its first release by another established producer under a new alias. The seven-track Golden Ratio Syrup EP is, apparently, “a protracted piece of programmatic music inspired by dreams of the coast, with evocations of the tide, clifftop flora, ice cream and dead revolutionaries,” and 'A Screaming Comes Across the Sky' is its climactic moment. One of the most exciting new movements in modern music involves electronic producers venturing into sonic realms of fear and uncertainty. Though these artists’ unforgiving style places plenty of demands on their listeners, it is devoid of cheap shock value and predictable moralizing, and is capable of finding and creating romance in a grayscale world of Brutalist architecture and all-pervasive automation. While typically associated with the artist rosters of labels like Downwards, Blackest Ever Black and Modern Love, Stroboscopic Artefacts has played just as strong a role in shaping this aesthetic. So it’s only fitting that the next Monad issue from Stroboscopic Artefacts would come from the German duo of Eric Goldstein and Konstanze Bathseba Zippora, - better known as OAKE - whose previous efforts on Regis’ Downwards label have established them as one of the most unique products of their genre.
Like OAKE’s previous work, their new Monad EP immediately establishes a tight hold on the listener’s consciousness with its rigorous balance of ethereal vocal seduction and concussive rhythm, making one feel thrust into a world where the forces of techno-science and magic are involved in a constant reciprocal conversation. The opening track ‘L’esclandre’ while just a harbinger of things to come, is still as intense on its own as anything else in the electronic music realm, ritualistically laying a foundation of heavy kick drums and metallic lashes that seem aimed at key pressure points of the body. The following track ‘Jardin d’évasion’, bringing spoken vocals and haunted sung melodies into the caustic mix, allows the listener to soar over the aforementioned Brutalist landscape while still somehow feeling the full weight of it - a dark musical gem whose vocal repetition of “keeping...awake” elegantly completes a feeling of post-industrial yearning and restlessness.
‘Hélicorde’ returns OAKE to a more stripped-down, rhythmically dominant format; in the process offering a track that seems to have been by some kind of hybrid machine-wolves rather than by humans enhanced with studio technology. The feeling of being ‘on the hunt’ is captured here with great panache, but doesn’t leave the ears so exhausted that they won’t be able to enjoy the breathtaking finale ‘Paysage dépaysé’. Initially powered along by hammering kicks and grinding ambience, a siren voice appears which leads the instrumentation through a number of increasingly intense permutations on the main theme. Immense, yawning dirge tones and dissonant strings combine with the already established presence of pneumatic drill percussion to make a timeless meditation on lost grandeur.

Cellular Automata is the new album from Dopplereffekt (Rudolf Klorzeiger and To-Nhan), their first in ten years since 2007’s Calabi Yau Space on Rephlex.

Cellular Automata approaches mathematical growth and decay as an iterative process, with each data input considered individually relative to the overall model. The result represents one of the group’s boldest creative endeavors, defying expectations while remaining unmistakably Dopplereffekt.

Cellular Automata is the third Dopplereffekt release to come out via Leisure System, following 2013’s Tetrahymena and 2014’s Hypnagogia.

The B2 to the Recast EP featuring Mike Ink, DJ Guy, & Terrestre aka Murcof released 11/09/2017 on Future Primitive.

A second release for London's Future Primitive Records brings to the fore a new hand-picked selection of hard to find - if not overlooked - tracks from Wolfgang Voigt, DJ Guy and Fernando Corona, aka Murcof. All of the music to feature on this four-track Recast EP was previously subject to tape or CD only release.

Lifted from his only album as Love Inc., Wolfgang Voigt's "Income" sits primo as the A1, holding firm 22 years after its original release. Predating Voigt's work as GAS, its caustic chords, shimmering melodies and chilled 85BPM vibe render it a production borne from the classic dub techno blueprint of the early-to-mid '90s. An early take on "slo-mo" techno.

The cassette tapes of DJ Guy have again been raided, with Future Primitive joining a select cast of followers to rejuvenate the Welshman's productions with an edit that appeared on his tape for Crisis Urbana.

Both B-side tracks "Botas De Oro" and "Secondary Inspection Theme" come from Murcof's one-time Terrestre alias, a project from the early-2000s which fuses textural, slow-motion and minimal house sensibilities with Mexican Banda and NorteNo music - aka Nortec, a micro-sub-genre to come out of Tijuana. Loose percussion, swung drums and winding rhythms are made all the more esoteric through the subversively climactic nature of Terrestre's music.
