Ama is a contemplative, ambient piece, taken from Phondupe's forthcoming debut album ONYKIA.  The track casts a trance through its ethereal synths that ebb and flow with a hypnotic oceanic sensibility in line with the producer’s recent singles, which explore the allegory of the deep sea. Angelic Japanese field recordings float through the track, recorded by Phondupe himself on amongst temples on Teshima Island, Japan.

"There’s a universal connectedness about the word “Ama”, which means something different in over 50 languages - “loves” in Italian, “now” in an Indigenous Aztecian tongue. It’s also the name of Japan’s infamous female free-divers who scale the bottom of the ocean for pearls.  ⁣⁣

There's something in that - holding your breath for a pearl. ⁣
⁣⁣
A lot has changed in the last 6 months, and while we wait it out, submerged in uncertainty, looking for a glimmer, I've also learned to stop and enjoy the view underwater. ⁣⁣

The field samples in this track were recorded outside a temple on Teshima Island in Japan, on a trip I took a few years ago. ⁣

Irish producer collaborates to deliver dowtempo folktronica gem.

With Felicity Breathes, Peter Vogelaar continues to hone his unique production style that has landed him placements on ABC’s ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ and others. 

Collaborating with fellow Irishman Deaf Joe, the song laments the over analytical demise of a relationship.

Deaf Joe relates: "I had the beat track on my headphones for a few months, and knew it was special, I loved it and waited and waited til the right melody clicked in my head. I just got the urge one day and was like “right, you’re not leaving the studio today ‘til it’s done”. Lyrically I was thinking about that moment in a relationship when someone starts to ask questions about what’s going on. You’ve been coasting along and everything is amazing and then suddenly all you’re doing is talking about your relationship, ‘the’ relationship. It sucks all the magic out of things, turns everything upside down. The way I see it you’ve got to live in the present and be grateful for each day together. You’ve got to chill out, breathe, relax, or else you’re f*cked..."

London born and based musician and multi-instrumentalist ​Zeb Samuels will be releasing his latest single, '​Positive Spirit' on 7 August via his own label ​Deep Heads​. The single is lifted from his upcoming EP, ​Vibration Exploration which will be available on the 21st of August and features ​Marc Cyril (who has worked with ​Joss Stone and ​Keziah Jones​) on bass, ​Byron Wallen (previously worked alongside ​George Benson​, ​Chaka ​Khan and ​Courtney ​Pine​) on trumpet and flugelhorn and ​Mcknasty (who has worked alongside ​Kammal ​Willaims​) on drums. The musician has seen support from a number of tastemaker publications, including the likes of ​CLASH, Magnetic Magazine, XLR8R, Electronic Groove and ​Decoded Magazine as well as airplay from ​BBC Radio 6 Music's
 
Gilles Peterson and ​Nemone​, ​5FM's ​Kid Fonque's​, by Belgium Tastemaker ​Lefto and ​Soulection ​Radio's Joe Kay. As a label owner, ​Zeb Samuels has worked alongside many rising artists, including the likes of ​SYNKRO, Djrum​, ​Joe Armon- Jones​, ​Congi and ​Geode.
Self-confessed music fanatic, ​Zeb Samuels grew up in London. This allowed for an abundance of music at his doorstep which would ultimately develop his appreciation for a wide variety of sounds and eventually lead to the self-taught pianist operating as a songwriter, producer and vocalist.

When discussing influences for the EP, ​Zeb Samuels cited to the variegated likes of Boards of Canada, Pink Floyd, Robert Glasper and ​LTJ Bukem​. His own sound reflects these influences, drawing strong parallels to the likes of ​Yussef Dayes, Alfa Mist, ​Mansur Brown ​and ​Portico​ ​Quartet​ coming to play while at the same time, maintaining its own unique integrity.

Opening with soulful jazzy soundscapes that draw you deeper into their waters, ​'Positive Spirit' acts as a cool breath of fresh air on a warm summer night. Radiating tranquil energy, ​Zeb Samuels ​envelopes a maturity within his sound, metaphorically easing the listener into its sonic arms. Made for open spaces as the listener gazes at the stars, the single is sure to bring peace of mind to all who listen to it.

Speaking of '​Positive Spirit'​, ​Zeb Samuels tells us: ​'I feel like this is a track that is an unveiling of a new light and embodies positivity amongst the dark times that we have encountered recently.'

On this EP, AKWIUS utilizes a grimey, bass focused hybrid of rave and post rave theories to explore moods of the current dystopian utopia from a Mexican American perspective and push beyond boundaries of contemporary rave aesthetics.
