RBR finally unveils his 3rd compilation, showcasing a taste for trancey atmospheres mixed with bass music. Get in the skin of your alter-gecko and discover your reptilian reflection in the Picture of Saurian Gray. We welcome first the ambient & slow goa maestro Khey Mysterio with his friend FIDY for a wobbly and swampy psybient track, to introduce talented newcomer Juli and her precise and sharp deep dubstep sound. RBR head Da Iguana delivers his usual lizard wizard touch in a drum & bass track with oriental and humid jungle flavours, leaving the stage to Mexican producer Sandunga and her typical psytropical sound where dembow and cumbia anthems meet experimental sounds. Argentinian and Brazil-based Nahd offers her vision of dark trip-hop before Toulouse-based Shaku hits our eardrums with a trancey and minimalistic dancehall banger.

Fourth album for the well established Strata-Gemma project by producer Billy Bogus who, this time, joins forces with long-time friend MA Spaventi to create a project experimental under every aspect. 
Ristoranti Innovativi speaks to us - same as a film would - about an idea of consumption so exasperated to become obsolete, in the general amniotic unawareness. From this awareness restless scenarios arise, as in the opening track Bath Exotico but also classy as in the nu-jazz of Oliver Stoned. Vaporous Africanisms intertwine in the rhythmic jungles of Pintus and Witch Doctor and glide over the jazzy downtempo of Diorama and the atmospheric electronics of Giardino d'Inverno. Ristoranti Innovativi is an album of chiaroscuro that mix jazz and electronic rhythms, to show us that mental and emotional process can synch our moods - through music - with an often indecipherable present. 

Strata-Gemma are Niccolò Bruni AKA Billy Bogus on composition and arrangement, Luca Cacciatore on winds and Andrea Moretti on double bass. The band boasts regular appearances on the renowned radio broadcasts of Gilles Peterson and Raffaele Costantino AKA DJ Khalab as well as having performed at the Giant Steps and Brilliant Corner in London, venues devoted to nu-jazz and post club sounds. 

MA Spaventi is a sound engineer and producer who has collaborated with an incredible number of artists and labels, making his synthesizers playground available for music ranging from electronic and ambient to house and Italo disco. 

This collaboration was born from a strong friendship and it’s based on an insatiable desire to experiment with genres and feelings.

In the Lens, Solo Andata’s fourth full-length album, was born from recordings found in the interstices of decades-old hard drives, lost email threads from disused accounts, and forgotten samples recorded on cassette dictaphones. These fragments were combined and re-worked with newer elements to create an album very much in the spirit of the band’s debut Fyris Swan (Hefty Records, 2006), an album touched by both folk and jazz and swathed in a dusty, narcotic haze.
Solo Andata’s Kane Ikin and Paul Fiocco have always pushed aside the digital studio in favor of a more haphazard and hands-on workshop vibe to their productions. They prefer near-broken acoustic instruments, cheap microphones and, as can be witnessed by their live performances, tend to turn anything they can get their hands on into a beautiful sound-making object.

While there is a raw and guileless nature to the duo’s sound it is precisely this that makes their music so powerful amidst the over-produced cliches of much modern music. The beauty of their work is how simple instruments and objects can be physically manipulated into creating such rich, layered sound. Dark, swaying, almost-looped melodies from piano, woodwinds and horns wrap themselves in smoky obscurity around remnants of percussion and warm beds of noise and the world around us.

In The Lens is very much a late-night record, reflected in the rain-soaked cover imagery, dripping with half-forgotten memories. Jittery yet calming, rhythmic, yet unhurried, it leads you down its dark corridors to a soft resting space. Ikin and Fiocco have created a new story around the chemistry of their creations that were taking place during the early days of their musical explorations.
